Man arrested in NM for 22nd drunk driving offense

ESPANOLA, N.M.â€"Police said a man was arrested on Monday for his 22nd drunken driving offenseâ€"and his blood-alcohol content tested almost five times higher than New Mexico's legal limit. State Police Lt. Eric Garcia said an officer pulled up to a car parked along a highway and found a 51-year-old man on the ground near his vehicle.
"He was coherent," Garcia said. "He showed signs of slurred speech, as might be normal for any DWI arrest, which led the officer to believe he might be driving under the influence."

Garcia said the suspect had to be taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent hospital in Santa Fe, where a blood-alcohol analysis showed a content level of .393 percent. New Mexico's limit for presumed intoxication is .08 percent.

Police said records showed the man has been arrested five times in New Mexico and at least 16 times elsewhere.

The suspect, who faces a felony DWI charge, was booked into the Santa Fe County jail.

Garcia said records showed the man faces pending DWI charges in Angel Fire and Espanola. He also was served with arrest warrants from San Miguel, Bernalillo and Sandoval Countiesâ€"all on DWI-related charges.

Garcia didn't know if the man had any prior DWI convictions.

One of the parts guys at my dealership has one of those breathy thingies in his truck.  He wrecked his other one DWI.  Ironically some other dumb ass DWI ran a light and hit my coworker.  Since they were both drunk they got taken in.  My coworker still drinks every night, Usually at a bar.  He won't take his truck because of the breathalyzer, He borrows his brothers.

My SO's ex collapsed while at the grocery store years back (presumably after he drove there). They hauled him to the hospital where he logged a BAC of .44 - I shit you not.

Needless to say, he had a little problem then and still does after countless bouts of treatment. I'm amazed he's still alive myself.

Its actually a serious problem out here.

earlier in the year, a big politico's lawer and a state cop ran over a guy (I saw the aftermath on my way to work ), then ran from the cops.

few months ago, 4 kids got killed and the drive got hurt pretty bad (her father is one of my customers) hit by a drunk going the wrong way on the highway.

4 weeks ago my brother's car got totaled by a drunk. get this, he'd just driven into town from cali, he wasn't one mile past the city limit when he was hit. the guy was so shit faced he fell out of his car when the door opened.

just a few days ago another kid plowed into some one and killed them.

now this asshat.

we need to make sure that first time offenses are make the beast with two backsing serious. like major $ fine, and a month in jail serious. 2nd time should be year in jail minimum and a fine that will cover the cost to keep them in jail for the time there in. 3rd time, they can spend the rest of there life stamping out license plates.

you know if some one's been caught for it once, they've driven drunk a whole bunch of times... they need to know its damn serious business..

Ohh, I'm sure its worse else where. it just seems like every other day theres another one, and these idiots just don't learn.

I know there catching lots of people too.. the number of cars I've worked on that have to be blow started has gone up quite a bit in the last year. (I charge min 1hr extra if you have to hang around so you can blow start your car when needed.)

SOFIA, Bulgaria - Incredulous doctors made five blood tests on a drunken man to confirm he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.914, far above the usual life-threatening range, police and doctors said Tuesday.
The 67-year-old man, whose name was not released, was hospitalized Dec. 20, when a car knocked him down on a street in the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.

A breath test showed high blood alcohol level, but police officers thought the result was inaccurate, because the man was conscious and talked with them, said Col. Angel Rangelov, head of police in Plovdiv.

Laboratory analysis of five subsequent blood samples taken the same day confirmed that the man had had a 0.914 blood alcohol content, Rangelov said. An 0.55 blood-alcohol level is usually considered as life-threatening.

this does also bring into question the quality of bulgarian doctors but still.
