Public Service Announcement for those considering Swine Flu Vaccine

A warning that the new swine flu jab is linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter.

The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, has been leaked to The Mail on Sunday, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins.

It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine.

GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal.

The letter, sent to about 600 neurologists on July 29, is the first sign that there is concern at the highest levels that the vaccine itself could cause serious complications.

It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when:

    * More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu.
    * 500 cases of GBS were detected.
    *  The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times.
    * The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear.
    * The US Government was forced to pay out millions of dollars to those affected.

Concerns have already been raised that the new vaccine has not been sufficiently tested and that the effects, especially on children, are unknown.

Do you have any links or anything to support this?  No offense to you but this looks like a cut n paste from a chain email.

I heard about this as well from a friend. I found this link online from Fox News regarding it. There hasn't been anything posted as of yet on the CDC website that supports this or not that I can find, not that it means this story isn't accurate- I just haven't found anything as of yet.  ???

It should also be noted that this letter originated in the United Kingdom, not the United States.

the United States does not have a "Health Protection Agency."

I've heard GBS mentioned on NPR a couple of times in reference to the H1N1 swine flu vaccine.  The vaccine, if I recall correctly, in '76 was made from whole dead viruses, while the new flu vaccine, like all modern flu vaccines, are made from parts of dead viruses.

The CDC is monitoring the situation to see if the rate of GBS in the population rises above the normal background rate.

I'm another one of "those" who doesn't support vaccines. There are many many pros and cons of it and I based my choice on them.

Are you including all childhood vaccinations in this?  (Hep A and B, Rotovirus, measels, mumps, polio etc)

Yes, and I have my reasons and I've done my research, attended vaccination classes and seminars and this is the conclusion I've come to.

I don't want this to be another vaccination debate thread so that's the end of that. If this thread wavers from the OP I'm locking it.

That's fine and all, but that is what your post is about.........a memo against the use of a vaccination because of a far study by one group. Much like the debate about how certain vaccines cause autism.

It's not worth arguing about, so I'll just stop and post my own thread. carry on.

You're right, it's not worth it.

My OP was just what the title says, a public service announcement. I myself hadn't heard of this particular risk and so I thought others would want to know as well.

carry on.
