How to mount front cowl/screen on '06 S2R 1k?

I picked up my S2R 1000 last weekend. Unfortunately the bike's original front cowl was taken off by the previous owner and is no longer available. I bought a front cowl on Ebay and ordered a Zero Gravity SR screen. Hopefully I will get both before the weekend.

(1) What additional parts do I need in order to mount the screen to the cowl and to mount the cowl to the bike? Where can I get those parts?

(2)  Does anybody know where I can find a "how to" for mounting the cowl to the bike? I would like to damage anything by making stupid mistakes.

Thanks,
Joerg

I do not have the 1000 or the zero gravity but i took a look at it online and it looks similar to oem. i believe that the s2r800 and s2r1000 share similar characteristics up front so this is what you'll need to do:

*you need to loosen and move to the side your gauge cluster. this will make it easier to reach the bolts when mounting to the bracket.
*the mounting brackets are basically the same thing that holds your headlight. there are additional holes on that bracket to mount the cowl - i believe its a 8mm screw and 10 mm nut
*there is a groove / cutout on the oem cowl that basically grabs the turn signals.

**push the cowl on the turn signals, line up your holes, push the screw in and bolt it all together. if i remember correctly the orientation of the screw and bolt were switched between left and right because of another metal bar that supports the gauge and wiring.

be carefull not to over torque the bolts! some blue loctite isnt really necessary but is always an extra measure to make sure nothing rattles loose.

Thank you, riffraf06s2r!

I received the cowl yesterday. Excellent condition, like new, no scratches. I was happy to see that. When holding the cowl in its "supposed to be" position I realized that something seems to be missing on the bike. According to your description and photos I have seen, there are supposed to be two brackets on the headlight holder to hold the cowl. On my bike it seems those holder have been cut off and the remains bent. Maybe I am wrong and there are differences in model years. Please have a look at the photos below. I am obviously not happy. But it is what it is, and I want to fix it!

(1) Do I need a new head light holder (part no. 829.1.099.1D)? Any recommendation, where to get it and how much it is?
(2) What do I have to do in order to take of the current head light off holder and put on the new one? Any known pittfalls?

Now, the screen: I have a Zero Gravity screen on order. My understanding is, that it comes without any fasteners etc. - Are there any recommendations where to buy the fasteners? I saw something at Zero Gravity (nylon or steel?). Or should I buy the OEM parts?

Help - any feedback is highly appreciated!!!!!

it appears that your bike is missing the bracket to bolt the flyscreen on...

here's a pic of my bike and I circled the bracket in red.

Thanks for posting the picture. That confirms what I had thought. In the meantime I was able to find the OEM part number for the head light bracket ("Headlight Holder" according to OEM parts catalog: 82910991d). The price: $200. I found one on E***y for less and ordered it.

Next step: Taking the current bracket off and putting the new one on. I found some some threads here that deal with this topic. I still appreciate any additional hint or lesson-learned.

Soon I should be able to put a headlight bracket on sale with cut-off fairing holders/brackets.

Mounting the Zero Gravity screen to the fairing: Where can I get the fasteners? Is there anything better available than the original fasteners?

Hi Jotra.

Don't forget to get some Poorducrider fairing supports.
Search threads for information.
Highly reccomended.

Cheers.

+1 on the PoorDucRiders, but, are you getting the taller ZG touring screen? If so, PoorDucRiders might not be required - it's MUCH more stable than the stock screen. Besides, sponsor Matrix sell very cool carbon fibre stays... http://www.matrixmotosports.com/products/ducati-carbon-fiber-fairing-support-stays

Thanks for that hint. I am getting the original size screen.  I would order the PoorDucRider fairing support today ("bare aluminum" seems to be the best color match) but I wasn't able to find any price info yet.

They come with longer bolts, but I can't remember if they came with the nuts and rubber thingies. I think they do, but call Jeff at MonsterParts - he knows.

Hi Jotra.

Have alloy clear coat ducriders, look like factory brackets.
Screen supplied by local guy.
Cheers.

Hi Madalf,
Thanks for the photos. Looks great. I contacted PoorDucRider yesterday and ordered exactly the same. Since my fairing is silver also on the inside I think this will be the "perfect match". Can't wait to have all my parts together and start the assembly...

In the meantime I have received the parts from poorducrider. They look great.

I figured out that I additionally need the two rubber "inserts" (Ducati part no. 85040821A) that have to be put in the holes in fairing and screen in order to bolt the screen to the fairing. I tried ordering them online but the sites I found require a minimum order of $30...

Do you have an idea where I can get the parts? Anybody interested in selling them to me (in case you don't need them any longer)?

Thanks,
Joerg
