Howdy Gang!
My 07 S2R1k has been making a metallic rubbing noise, most often after downshifting but also at take off sometimes. I only have 8k miles and still have factory warranty until January.
Just wondering what my respected Ducs thought.

Well, if we table and clutch discussion...
My 1st though is to check your chain. It may need adjustment, or even replacement.  Depending on your riding style and the care you take of it 8k might be the end of it's service life.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Is the noise like a metallic squeak? Kind of like metal on metal sliding. Also, does the sound go away after take-off? My clutch does the same thing once in a while, only on take-off. Took the plates out, cleaned out the dust and sound was gone.

+1...sounds like dust in the plates.

Do you run an open cover? If not, dust build-up will cause a groan/very low squeak on take-off. Try blowing them out with compressed air (no need to remove the plates).

Clean out the clutch basket and wipe down the plates. If that doesn't fix it, you MIGHT need new plates, but I would bet on them being dusty.

Happens to me all the time.

Yes! It is a metal rubbing noise. I was thinking it might be brake dust since my cover is stock. Pressurized shop air, here I come!
Thanks

Edit: I said brake dust, but you know what i meant

Wear a mask when you blow it out - that dust isn't so great for a body

If its the same thing I went through a month ago. I pulled the plates out of the hub and gave it a good blow job of air. I blasted for acouple of minutes until I was sure the thing was clean (also, I took a sanding block and lightly scuffed the steel plates) then put it back together. Made a world of difference. Its been in the shop the last 2 weeks for the 7500 and the tech said that he added a "curve" plate to the clutch or at least that is what I think he called it. Anyhow, I will post the results when I've given her a good ride.

Nothing technical to add as I agree with the above suggestions but here's a new one as far as "that noise" goes.

We've all had someone tell us about "something not sounding right" or "what's wrong with your bike?"

A few weeks ago someone asked me the question and I kind of choked back the urge to huff at ignorance of non-Ducatisti and instead replied back with my typical "nothing's wrong. It's a Ducati. It has an open, dry clutch and that's the way its supposed to sound" to which he replied

"It sounds like the bells on Santa's sleigh or something"

That was a first and it made me laugh inside. Just thought I'd share.

I like to use the expression "people mock what they don'tunderstand". However, Santa's sleigh/ Satan's sleigh, I would definitely take that as a compliment
