new to ducati

hey guys,

just got to 1000 k on my bike and a small wrench showed up next to my km/h. is that normal? do i just need an oil and filter change?

what year bike, and is it brand new, or new to you (or to put it another way, is that the first 1k on the motor?)

edit: assuming your bike is your avatar, and its brand new, thats probably the 600 mile service indicator.

its a brand new m 696. and yeah i just got 600 miles on it.. so im guessing its the service indicator light. but will it disappear as soon as the service is done. or the ecu has to be reseted again?

With the old clusters you could clear the light by pushing left button on the instrument cluster. With the the MotoGP derived clusters on the 696 having all those funky menu's and options, its probably a bit more complicated.

Maybe up, up, down, down, left, right, left right, b, a, start

well if it's a cool dealer they will do it for free. the dealer in Venice, italy did that for me.

what if i disconnect the battery wires then connect them again? will it dissapear? has any1 tried that?

your clock won't know what time it is anymore, but the odometer will stick trip the service indicator untill the work is done.  Have you had the service done?

Do the service or at least change the oil.  The dealer can void your warranty if the services are not performed as scheduled by someone and there is a failure that is related to the service. 

For instance if the 600 mile service was just an oil change (which it pretty much is) and you fail to have the service performed and at 1000 miles the engine locks up then guess what, they have the right to deny a warranty claim since you were supposed to have the oil changed.

no havent yet, done about 1006 km so that about 600+ but havent drove the bike since then. so ur saying the odometer will know if i have changed the oil? how is tha possible?

the ecu will know what the mileage is, once it trips it won't turn off until the service people turn it off.
even if you unhook the battery.

Y'know, there's a lot of information in your owner's manual. If you somehow managed to end up with the bike but not the manual, you can get one online at ducati.com.

There are rumours various places on the web that there's some way to reset the service indicator without access to the gizmotronics that the dealer has, but none of those has worked for me. As far as I can tell, you'll need to get it reset at a dealer whether you have them do the first service or you do do it yourself.
