Changed my in-tank filter and cleaned out the tank this arvo and tonight my forearms are bruised and sore. Thanks to reading the good info here on DMF the nuts and bolts stuff was easy but hauling the pump off and back on to the clips was damm difficult due to poor access.

I'm rather skinny. How the hell do beefy blokes do this job ? ?

Nearly three years when I got my Monster with it's various tank dings I asked about knocking  out handlebar incursions on TOB, and the answer was Good Luck. Now I've been in there I agree

Gently and in the cold is how I did it... No bruises (not sure how you managed that) here. As you've experienced there's real no good way to do it - just go in and fish around.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Reminds me of the story about the gynocolgist who decided one day to be a Ducati technician.

No one would hire him because he didn't have the training.  He told everyone that he was a very intelligent man and had read everything ever written on the subject.

Finally he found a service manager who would give him a chance.

The service manager said he could have the job if he could adjust the valves on a Desmosedici in the allotted time.

So the doctor got to work.

Soon everyone in the dealership was standing around watching and laughing.  Then people were coming in off the street to watch.

Soon, the doctor finished up and the sevice manager started up the bike and took it for a test ride.

When he returned he told the doctor the job was his.

The doctor let out a heavy sigh and said,  "The way everyone was laughing I thought for sure that I would not get the job."

The service manager said,  "Well, we've never seen anyone do it through the exhaust pipe before.

That's a joke i have heard in dutch (so it must be old [evil]) [beer]

But when i want to take the pump out of the tank i take a piece of wood about two feet long 3 inch wide
I switched the tank last week and i have done it in less than 1 hour

Would you care to elaborate?
I picture you bludgeoning the tank until it coughs up the filter.

I believe he's using the wood as a lever to pry the pump out of its' clip.

I do like your vision of it though. [laugh]
