Coiled spring in fuel line, related to vaccum petcock?

I had a section of bad hose leaking fuel everywhere when I walked in the garage. Upon taking the line off leaving the fuel filter, my father quickly and surgically cut the bad section out to where I could reconect it to the filter until I get a new line. Upon looking at the lanced piece of line to determine a size, I notice a spring within. "Uhohh." I moaned; niether of us have come across a fuel line with a spring in it, I never knew. Is it for the vaccume petcock?

I had a manual petcock installed with some carb work in the past, I use this primarily eventhough they supposedly rebuilt the vaccum one -they deemed it the culprit of my previous problem.

Can I run my bike without the spring in the new line even though I use a manual system or am I asking for problems from the vaccum system without a spring?  I'm puzzled.

The spring is to keep the line from kinking.

You'll be fine as long as you make sure it doesn't kink.
