Sorry, meant that more for MonsterLover as he and I were both talking about the '07 950s.

MadDuck

Riding without a tach is no problemo. The only reason I put one on the Monster was because I could get one and it looked good. The 848 has that digibar graph dealy and I only rarely glance at it.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

There's no tach in my '62 Falcon and I.....

;D

just messin' with ya.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Monsterlover

I got used to it quickly.  You can feel what's going on pretty easily.

The times I could use a tach would be to keep me from hitting the rev limiter (pretty soft btw, doesn't throw you over the bars) but to be honest, I normally don't have time to look down in those types of situations

[evil]

Some have added tachs to their Sm's, but I don't think they're necessary.

I guess I'm just spoiled, because I like having 'em.  Wonder how cheap I could get a set of clocks from an '09 for...

Thought about that too.  Or I could just get an Adv 990, they have one at the dealership, but I don't imagine it would be anywhere near as involving to ride...

Monsterlover

Please don't get an Adv...

cool, but much much lower on the cool scale imo ;D

Actually, if I were to add a tach, I'd pick up something from Autometer.  They have bike specific tachs that don't look too bad.

There's also a plethora of aftermarket digital type add on tachs as well

Hmmm...  Was just about set to pull the trigger on an '07 SM that the dealer here has.  Got them talked down to $9400 OTD, and if you knew how shops did business here in Hawaii you realize just how much that is saying.  But then a wrench got thrown into the cogs...  The KTM dealer on Maui called me up and offered me a NOS '08 Super Duke with 13 miles on it for $10.5K OTD and shipped to Oahu...  Decisions decisions...

Monsterlover

Have you ridden the 990SD?

I hated the fuel mapping.  Off throttle was just about throwing me up to the bars.

Buzzy too.

The SM was much smoother and about as much power.

All IMO

;D

No, haven't ridden one yet, but am thinking about trying to hop over to Maui over the weekend to take a look.  Part of the deal on the SD is that they will give me a stupid deal on the Akro full evo system, and the mapping that goes with it.  Maybe that would cure the fueling woes just the DP kit does for the E3 monsters...

Monsterlover

It might. . .

you should ask the injected 950 guys on adv.

The full akro system for the sm is like $2200.  One of the guys in Pittsburgh has an SMR with it and I talked to the KTM tech that jetted the bike.

He set it up where KTM said to for that system, but ended up going 3 jet sizes larger to get it running well.

He thinks it could even maybe go one more.

I asked how the bike runs.

"Picks the front up in the first 4 gears with a hard shift, breaks the rear loose at speed with WOT in the first 3 gears."

85 miles until the fuel light is on, 100 till its only got vapor in it :D
