What sounds better than a Ducati?

I took my kids to see the Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour at the Manchester Airport today.  We got to crawl through a B-17 Flying Fortress and a B-24 Liberator, and see a P-51 Mustang and AT-6 Trainer.  They were offering rides in the P-51 and AT-6.  I think the AT-6 was over $400 for 45 minutes, and the P-51 was $2200.  While we were there, someone went up in the AT-6.  That sounded pretty cool.

As we were walking to the car, I heard the P-51 fire up and start idling warming up.  The kids were tired and hungry and wanted to leave.  As I'm driving off, I think I can't leave without watching the P-51 take off.  I find a grassy spot next to the fence along the runway and pull off.  I get out of the car and say we're watching the Musting take off.  We had to wait 15-20 minutes because there were a few commercial jets coming in to land and a couple of planes already in line to take off.  Finally it was the Mustang's turn.  The sound and feel of that plane going by and taking off was awesome!  Do you think that engine would fit in a monster frame?

On a couple of occasions while at college just out side of Santa Paula, CA a P-51 buzzed over the campus.  The sound was, well, the greatest sound ever.  I have never written a Bucket List, but I already know that riding in a Mustang is on the list.

The P51 was a good warbird with the Allison engine, but after they put Rolls Royce Merlin engine in it, nothing else came close. One very industrious fellow cut 2 cylinders from a Merlin, and stuffed it into a motorcycle. 5000cc twin  :o

I got to go for a ride in a B-25 Mitchell. I sat behind the pilots under the dorsal turret. I was curious and at one point I took my headset off just to see how loud it was. I thought it was going to make my ears bleed. I also got to slide under the pilots up into the nose. Looking straight down while flying was awesome.

Oh my... it doesn't, until you stir it. Then it makes one of my favorite sounds.  ;D

Great, now I am hungry for mac-n-cheese with bacon in it and I want to flly a P-51.

I don't agree, I think they are too high pitched.

while I agree it is very high pitched, it just sounds cool for some reason.

Maybe because it winds up so fast and shifts so quickly?
