I'm looking at what my options are for raising the handlebars.  I figure if I can get this right I won't have to buy a 2nd bike  :P

I got a pair of cheap risers but I didn't like how they made the bike feel.  I think it may have had something to do with the stock rearsets just throwing everything off.  (bottom half wants to lean forward, top doesn't)  I'm going to be getting some rizoma rearsets soon but there has to be some nice options for raising the bars.

Also, I know if they go to high I'm going to have to replace the throttle cable and maybe the brake/clutch lines.  I don't eve know where to begin to tackle that.  ??? ???

I put Genmar risers on my first Monster.  They were around $70.  They looked ok, and road fine.  I did not need new cables, but did have to reposition the brake cable clamps on the front fork.  Not too big a deal (or at least it would not have been had I not snapped the heads off 2 bolts - but that is just my incompetent wrenching).  However, then I went to race school, and decided not to put the risers on my new Monster, because I wanted a lower riding position.

Good luck!

I put Renthal Motocross bars on mine. This, of course, raises and widens the grip position but suits me, is great in town and no problem with any of the controls, apart from rerouting the throttle cable outside the fork.

You have an issue getting the controls to stay put without the holes for the tabs?

As for the problems regarding "bottom half wants to lean forward" you can check this out:

Hey, I've done a couple things to improve my reach. I'm 5'7" and wanted  more upright position. The GenMar risers work great. The other mod I did was to replace the stock bars. Iif you look at he stock bar you'll notice the bar actually curves forward a bit before it curves back. I wanted a bar with only a sweep back. I found the perfect bar at a bike shop for $18.00. The ride is much better for me now.

I drilled holes in the bars for the control tabs. I spent a lot of care making sure everything was where I wanted it first. I learned this the hard way, if the controls feel a little wrong it becomes incredibly annoying!

PS Please excuse my mirrors! You've got to keep your wits about you in the city here- bar end isn't an option in traffic with wide bars...
