So i'm driving down to SC on friday and can't leave from freehold, NJ (northern NJ) until aroun 1pm. since we need to ne there before sat morn, we can't leave at 8-9pm like we usually do and get there at 7am.

my estimates have us getting to the baltimore area around 2-2.5 hrs later meaning we'll be catching friday afternoon rush hr traffic.
there's a reason i ride a motorcycle everywhere, it keeps me calm knowing i can go around people if i really want to.
unfortunately i'll be driving a cage and i know i'll lose it. sitting still on major roads gets to me...

i don't mind a little extra distance if i keep moving.

This might be just a tad outside of the area ;)
i was thinking of taking 13 from DE past Norfolk and need to know if anyone by chance has any input as far as traffic density and road conditions.

AROUND Baltimore is right... bwaah bwaaah bwahhh

Using 13 you'll avoid the hell traffic in the DC metroplex - but if I remember correctly, there's an expensive toll bridge. Not so expensive it's not worth the sanity you would loose dealing with DC rush.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

13 kinda runs into 301.

and i'm getting pretty much convinced that i'm going that way.

can anyone verify if it's a 2 or 4 lane road, stoplights, goes through every town possible?

I would take 13 all the way , when you get near Pocomoke city do the speed limit.

If you have time ,stop by Fischer motorcycles in Pocomoke City.

Statler

the answer is to stop in Baltimore and let a flounder buy you drinks at a waterfront bar while the traffic dies out.
It's still buy a flounder a drink month

that's the kind of advice i'm looking for!
unfortunately i still need to make it another 450 miles and not get there much after midnight.

i like that idea, but the only problem is i still have to drive the rest of the way to myrtle beach that night.

though i would prob be very relaxed for the drive past DC.

I'll let you know what time i expect to be coming back through on monday if that's available.  [thumbsup]

monday is half priced sammiches and 3 buck pints.   If youre here at 4 pm-ish I can certainly make myself available.

conveniently just off I95   ;D

Take Statler up on his offer - he know's good living... and if he offers up meals cooked by his (much) better half... mmm oh man good eats!

Zoom, 13 starts below Dover, goes down through Salisbury, Norfolk etc

your offer has been accepted, and we have agreed to not rule out just hanging out for a bit to allow all the traffic from baltimore to philly die off.  [thumbsup]

let me know where to go and i'll arrange to have us there around 4pm on monday.

Little Havana
1325 Key Highway
Baltimore, MD 21230

corner of Key Highway and Webster.  Webster actually becomes the LIttle H parking lot.

if coming north it's the last exit before the tunnel on I95 in Baltimore.  exit 55 I believe.  follow signs around to Key Highway.   After curvy part of Key Highway it'll be on your right after General Ship Repair but before the big condo tower with the ugly blueish top.  Bright building on Right.

My cell is 410 491 9424

oh...and 95 is fasted way through/around Baltimore no matter the time.  The beltway is just as clogged and is just slow and further.

if i'm going past the city, i usually take 695

if i'm going somewhere nearby i just stay on 95 until i have to get off.

it would be great if every city had something like 295 around richmond. i have never seen traffic on that part of the road no matter the time.

Knightof NI....
i just noticed the quote in your sig......ha

twolanefun

You'll find US13 to be a pleasant trip to the Tunnel, south of Dover, north of Dover not sure how bad the traffic will be it merges with Rt. 1 for awhile. I have not been over there for awhile, but Rt. 1 is probably a better choice through Dover than US 13, then back onto US13. I suspect beach traffic is down, so it might not be too bad and certainly better than I-95. You might consider taking 301 then cutting over to US 13. You did not say where in SC you are going, south of Norfolk pick up US 17 to US 158 to I-95. If you told where in SC you are headed I might have a better route from Norfolk. - Gene
