Hi Oz Monsters,
First post.....
Name: Phil
Location: Perth
Bike: Monster 696
Been riding: 3 yrs
I'm a monster newbie, brought it new only last week and so far pretty pleased with it. Always fancied a Ducati and finally got one.
Being new it's stock standard, I 'm hearing a bit about aftermarket exhaust mods, but being a newbie have no idea what advantage/disadvantage that will give, apart from looking very cool of course...
Be interested in opinions...

g,day phil, welcome to the forum.
looking cool is a secondary concern. it's the sound, the glorious V twin sound!
slip ons will give you the look and sound but not much in the way of performance gain, a full system has the potential to offer more performance but you need a better (say, K&N ) filter and the appropriate tune, so that's getting pricey, don't know if D/P make a kit with all that in it yet.

gday phil welcome to the world of monsters.dont know what advice to give except keep all your original bits.also if
you do buy aftermarket stuff keep all original boxes.one day you will sell the 696 and upgrade.that becomes inevitable.just ask mattyvas.

Any idea how much $ we're talking for full termie system compared to slipons? I'm guessing it probably depends where you source them from but a rough idea is all I'm after.
Further q - is it likely that mr
will take an added interest with the extra noise?

Welcome to the DMF pompey.
give it time, you'll get the Bling addiction. Once you start you can't stop, just ask most of the good folk here.

Welcome Pompey.
Termis are the only pipes I've seen on a 696 in Ozmo land ... the majority of us are on the 'old-style' monsters. Maybe Ungenheuer, Craigo or Justo will chime in with the critical info.
The Termi kit (I believe) comes with slip-ons and the 'racing' ecu so is probably the simplest solution but consider you are buying from NFI so I wouldn't be thinking cheap.
A flick through a thread such as:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=12166.0
may inspire, confuse or scare you. There is a lot of information about.
As Loony indicated it depends on what you do as to what the pros & cons are, briefly:
. slip-ons - sound and look (maybe small performance change)
. air intake - allows greater performance but may cause fueling problems
. ecu - completes the package with smooth running, better performance and sound
. grain of salt - I am not an expert.
In terms of attention from the constabulary I think it depends more on the circumstances and situation you put yourself in than just noise. I wouldn't expect too many problems with the Termi kit but maybe Monsta or somebody from WA may be able to shed some local light on things.

Welcome Pompey,
Your world will be spun around after poking around here for a while.
Just wait till Heather hears of another WA member she'll be stoked, even though she lives in VIC.
Enjoy the new bike and buying pretty bits for it.

Welcome Pompey.
Word of advice - unless you want to regulary empty your pockets of coin, avoid asking the modd/bling question. Mongrels got me - bad.
The 696 will definately benefit from a new exhuast, the termi full system (though expensive) about 2.5-3K, depending on where u go ( i suggest going back to the dealer and getting a deal with them, they at least know you). helps with the power loss around 4.5KRPMs. Dropping down to a 14T sprocket also is a wise and innexpensive upgrade. I havnt done this one yet, but I am hearing it every where and it's ready to go on.
Also chop the tail, it just looks so much sweeter with the eliminator and all that plastic gone. no performance value. Though I swear I go faster now. [moto]
and then there's the...... crikey we could all go on forever.
and sometimes do...

don't chop the tail! there's no way back from that and if pc plod wants to be an arse, he can put you off the road for it! just my .02c but there are nice carbon trays that minimise the size without chopping it.
paul.
carbon fibre!!!! it's started!! another addict, i'll get him hooked in no time at all.

Not on the 696. The Fender comes off with easy unbolting, ready to put back on if mr
asks you too. But from my knoweldge removing it on the 696 is perfectly legal as long as the plate/brakelight and indicators are intact and visible.
So chop chop chop.

so it does, my mistake, i had a look at the 1100S last week and they are very nice, didn't like the headlight but it grows on you, i reckon the tail looks fine, why attract the fuzz if there's no need to? the one at gold coast ducati had a gold paint kit on it, very nice!
paul.
p.s, i'm off to give myself an uppercut for suggesting our new member keep something standard............

hmn I must be getting predictable in my old age.
Hello fellow Sandgroper. Enjoy the riding weather over there in the west cos we certainly ain't getting any here in Vic. There's more bike rideable roads here tho (when the sun's shining and there's no traffic or
