"Play" at rear sprocket

  Is there any allowance for play at the five mounting points where the rear sprocket mounts to the carrier.  I was cleaning the chain today and noticed if I grab the sprocket it moves laterally.  I don't recall noticing this before, and the chain was replaced about 2k miles ago.  The nuts are tight on the carrier, so it's not that.

Been doing a bit of hunting on the site and think that it's probably the cush washers going bad.  If that's the case is it dire that I replace them a.s.a.p. ??

do you have a Single sided swingarm bike? if so, its ok. Im not sure about the DSS bikes though.

Like He Man said, most SSS bikes have some lateral play in the rear sproket.  I noticed bit more play in mine since I installed the quick change carrier, but again, pretty normal.

I noticed the same thing when putting a new tire on my 695 a few days ago. I took the rear sprocket and carrier off to inspect the cush drives for damage, and didn't find any at all. I talked with a few other techs at my shop about it, and we all decided it looked pretty normal (disclaimer: we are a BMW auto dealer). There was no abnormal looking wear pattern on the pins of the sprocket carrier, and no cracking or wear of the cush drives, so I reassembled it and decided not to worry. For what it is worth one of my co workers had the rear wheel off of his SV650 and it had the exact same play going on.

Thanks for the replies.  I'll assume all is normal and continue to ride it like I stole it.  It's got to go in for belts and valve adjust pretty soon so I'll have them double check the movement to make sure it's all good.
