Machida is an animal.  He could be on top for a while.

The Hughes v Serra fight was pretty good.

I think Frankie Edgar is legit, give him another shot at Gray Maynard

No kidding.  If I would have dreamt it, that's how it would have gone.  Perfect.  Lyoto is so quick!  I actually rewound it a few times to see how he covered distance, and still landed a couple of the early kicks.  Sheesh!  I knew he had a solid left hand, and I knew that Rashad would fail to execute against Machida.  Man, I was so pumped to see that win!!!

Hughes by 'human blanket'...meh.

I under-estimated Edgar's wrestling.  Once he demonstrated that Sherk wasn't going to plant him on his back and grind him out, Sherk seemed to fold.

C'mon, UFC... make Machida / Silva happen.

Both Anderson and Lyoto have said they will not fight each other; they are teammates, to some degree.

I've seen Machida dismantle other guys. I was even giving Rashad the benefit of the doubt, but he got schooled. They said it best, how do you prepare for a guy like Machida. Are they going to start looking for the local Shotokan instructors? Even when Rashad was forcing him to be more aggressive Machida would just plant a kick to the face or body. I will wish Rampage luck.

Machida was awesome. Evans was really nervous and couldn't figure machida out. For anyone that thought his fights were boring had to be happy with his diplay of skills.

I don't think Hughes should have got a unanimous decision, but Serra could have done more.

All in all a decent night of fights.

My guess is, the gameplan developed involves continuous pressure, with the idea that this will prevent Lyoto from getting set or setting up combinations.  That sounds good on paper, but I think it will be a hard one to enact.  Machida is a master of timing; if Rampage starts stalking him (a la Thiago Silva), he'll have to set to throw punches.  It is at that time that Lyoto will strike.  Also, Machida seems content to go 'one-and-done' with strikes; getting in, throwing a kick, and getting out.  This peppering will frustrate a "stand-and-bang" guy like Rampage.  Also, Machida is faster on the feet than Rampage.  Awesome timing, and solid counterstriking, will make it difficult for the Wolf's Lair to establish a solid gameplan.  Additionally, it will be hard for them to find guys who fight like Machida (seriously, if Greg Jackson couldn't do it).

Yep, preparation is the hardest with Machida. In traditional karate you have 3 timings. I don't remember what they're called in japanese, I'm sure my brother does. Anyway, Sinister is 100% correct. Timing is the key to Machida. If he can figure out your timing when you're striking, then he's done.

Brock could beat him ;D

Seriously though, Machida is amazing.  I loved the fight and his speach afterwards.  Good to see that he speaks at least a little english.  Its going to be hard to beat him for anyone.  Rampage is next so we shall see. [thumbsup]

Shouldn't you be at a Tapout Guys fan signing?   [laugh]

I noticed he spoke a lot more English, as well.  My guess is that he has been working on it; in the post-fight press conference, though, he spoke through Ed Soares.  He probably has fairly good English, but feels more comfortable working through an interpreter.

Rampage doesn't have the patience to try and counter the counterstriker.  He does have one-punch knockout power, though.

That's the only way I see Rampage winning too.  If not, could be another Machida beatdown which I am not adverse to seeing.

Dana has to be happy that he can speak at least some english. I think Silva not being able to speak it really hurts his popularity.

I just don't see Machida having a hole that Rampage can capitalize on.

I'd wager that Silva speaks more english than he lets on.
