Had my first ride on a modern liter bike today and all I can say is Ridiculous!!

Gus let me have a crack at his, new to him, ZX10R and I was blown away by the performance of the motor and chassis.  What a sweet motor on that bad boy.  It's such a different experience from the twins power delivery.  Where the twin spins up in a very linear manner, the in-line 4 seems to spin up exponentially.  Excuse the cliche but its like warp speed.  Its getting faster, it's getting way faster, holly crap everything is IZ_!

The bike is feather weight when rolling.  I've read the cheesy moto mags that say "the bike turns in with just a thought" but it is true with this bike.  Hardly any effort at the bars. Tip it in, look through the turn and give it gas.  Stock suspension handled my fat ass with no complaints. Awesome.

Not completely uncomfortable but I only rode it for about 20-25 minutes.  That's the exact time of a session at a track day! [evil]

The brakes were sub-par but that's a relatively easy fix, I would assume.

Thanks Gus.  Hopefully we'll get after another ride in the next few weekends.
Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.

The only downside to owning a Kawi is the message boards..... all they talk about are drag racing & mowhawks [laugh]

Greg's SV is sweet as well....... like a Monster should be stock....... strong motor comfy & good fuel range ;D  His GSXR suspension & Penske rear shock help too...... my fat ass was very happy [cheeky]

On a side note, there were a TON of bikes @ the Rock Store today...... lot was full by 9AM.... Pro Italia had some sweet bikes & the owner was trying to sell us an MV Augusta.

GregP

He didn't have to sell me on the MV. He had to wipe the drool off my chin.  Unfortunately, my bank account can't take that hit at the moment. Plus, that thing has a seriously small cockpit.  It was pretty though.

PS I'm not saying Gus is fat. He's just big boneded! [laugh]

Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

I am really feeling like my life might not be complete if I don't get myself a liter bike in the near future. It is a very different experience then the twin. I love my sv but the way the power comes on with the zx10r is other worldly. The thing was so smooth and low end isn't an issue. I think that is one of the charateristics of the big ninja as opposed to the other liter bikes.

they're an absolute blast to ride, but 99% of the people out there will ride a 600-750cc bike quicker "when it counts."

sorta not really.  the big 4 liter bikes all feel that way, to some small degree difference one way or the other... esp when you compare them to what you've ridden so far.  it's not like riding my R6...

re what derby said, basically, yeah.  learn to ride a SS level bike quick first and you won't end up on your head quite as fast.

fwiw, i do agree with you.  i spent a day at SOW on matt's gsxr1K.. the neverending power is ridiculous.  but (not being my bike) i never pushed it... push those things and you'll end up blowing a lot of corners.

I'd imagine that a liter bike would be a handful at Streets.  Just to small a track to utilize that type of power with my limited skills.  Those corners would come up real fast on that thing.

For my skill set and equipment experience, JC's 675 is just about perfect at Streets.  A nice rush of power between 8-12K and nimble enough to make easy work of the corners.  The SV was solid but I didn't feel like I could be a lot faster right now if I wasn't worried about crashing someone's bike.

Buttonwillow would be a fun track to run a liter bike and I can see how the Big Track would be fun as you'd get to the 4 turns much more quickly then on a 55hp moto (think 620).

Maybe with some time I'd get use to a 600 but my one time with the R6 I was totally out synch with the power band and the shift pattern.

Bottom line, I need to win the lottery so I can get a stable of scooters!! [wine]

Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.

The end is in sight! Gotta buckle down and get to work!

FWIW - I love my 1K. And I seldom blow corners.  :-*
