They were talking about this at La Ducati Day. It closed off 84 for almost an hour while we were there.

Wow that's terrible.  It was crazy foggy and wet yesterday on Skyline.  I was poky slow...  Hope they're ok.

ETA:  Holy cow - I saw that guy!!  Reading further on the BARF thread it looks like a pearl white 848 or 1098 was involved - that person passed me going the opposite way.  We were headed home on Skyline, and probably missed the crash by 5 minutes.  A pearl white 1098 or 848 came around a corner, about 2 miles from 92, the guy was hanging off.  I was amazed.

I was just re-reading the thread here:
http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85477

That front tire was basically ripped off that Norton.

I really hope this guy is ok.

I hear he might be alive, but that's not necessarily "OK".  I just heard reports from a car driver describing one accident and a close call involving what might have been the initial responders to the Duc/Norton accident scene.  (Fire truck nearly ran into a car making a u-ie.) While I'm sorry that I missed LDD this year, I'm not sorry that I missed riding those roads this year.

Godspeed riders. that sucks.

I hear ya about Skyline/9. I hate riding Skyline on weekends. I noted its referred to as "Track 9," on BARF.
Should be "Squidline"

The 1198 had <300 miles on it. Rider in his 20's. That speaks volumes.  Undecided

I wont pass judgement on the rider but the picture that is being painted about the Duc rider sounds like he was riding the bike out of his skill level well before the incident.

Sucks for both of them but much more for the classic Norton guy who sounded like he was minding his own bussiness =(

Lemme say, having nearly been collected by a douche going over the double yellow at Skaggs not long ago, I don't have a lot of tolerance for people who ride beyond their skill level. Especially on right hand corners.

I am with Michael on this one...I about got steam rolled by some jackson that just bought a 1098 about a year ago....I "ran into" him later at STP and asked him which country in Europe he was from and if they ride on the right or left side?  The bike was too damn tall for him too.....anyhow on the guys....I heard from a buddy that at least one guy was KIA?  I haven't seen anything on the Mercury yet if so. Huh?
Hope all are well.....

I skimmed through that whole thread, but couldn't penetrate all of the self-righteous indignation and check-out-how-skilled-a-rider-I-am-by-the-theoretical-gobbledeegook-I-post-on-the-interwebz to figure out WTF actually happened.

Anyone have the cliff notes re the accident and rider's current conditions?  All I got was that a lunatic on a white 848 crossed the DY and took out a guy on a Norton.  Then there was something about white Duc guy making a left turn?
