So i went away for the weekend, no issues with the bike, then, when I come back, first thing i do is go for a ride. The bike barely turns on after holding the button in for a bit, then after idling for about 45 sec, shuts off. I tried turning it back on and there seems to be a high pitched whine/whistle coming from what seems to be somewhere towards the upper front of the bike (maybe the around the airbox/radiator) I checked for leaks and have found nothing. All fluid levels seems to be adequate, and its got a full gas tank. I finally got it going and i would twist the throttle and go into first and it would feel like there is absolutely no power. It will stall if i dont give it almost full throttle just letting the clutch out in first. took all i could feather the clutch and keep the engine revved to get it home....anybody have any ideas?

could be bad gas but my first guesse would be a vacume leak , i dont think your intake could make that noise at idle or low rpms even if you had k\n's.
just my two cents. i normaly to find a leak either keep the thing running and touch hoses. another way is spray a famable liquid and see if you can locate the source that way .
it can be a number of things but those seem the most obvious to me at least.

I'm thinking fuel pressure. The whine might be the pressure regulator.

Open the cap while it's running and look in to see if you can see fuel spraying around. If you can you have a split fuel line.

If you can't get it running look in while the pump is cycling when you turn the key on.

when you say "open the cap" are you talking about the gas cap?

so i went to start it and lifted the tank to see if i could find anything and a puff of smoke came out of the the intake manifold (i think thats what it is) underneath the air filter. I have the top cut off my air filter box. The filter is clean, and it sounds like the noise is coming out of the area underneath the filter.....i'm going to go take a few pics and post them since I might not be too clear with my explanation.

It seems to be idling at about 900 rpm. When i let the clutch out in first and twist the throttle the rpms drop so i have to twist it more just so it wont sputter out. It blows my mind because i left on friday without a care in the world...and i come back to this  [bang] no more going out of town!
I was able to get some pictures and a video of it in action.

UPDATE: I adjusted the throttle with the two screws and no help....  :-\

for comparison, this is what it normally is like:

Classic symptom of a fouled spark plug. pull 'em out and see if one is black.

The puff of smoke is from a backfire.

The backfire could be from lean or rich.

Yes, open the fuel filler cap and look for fuel spraying around.  You should see fuel moving, but not spraying.

djrashonal

I looked at the fuel, i saw a little come up, but nothing really spraying around. Thanks for the help guys! I'm going to check the spark plugs when I get home. If they are bad, which should I buy to replace them...some people say Denso's, some say other brands.....any specific model number that arent super expensive, but last a good long time?

you have to buy the correct 30 dollar plugs. But if the plug is fouled you should be able to clean it up with a wire brush and regap it make sure it is the right plug though! They are made by Champion.

Are you using a spark plug socket to remove the plugs? They have a rubber insert that grabs the ceramic and lets you lift it out. Try turning the bike upside down to see if it falls out.  ;)

I tried lifting the bike and turning it over.....does anyone have a spare bike flipper I could borrow? I would only need it for about 5 min.  [cheeky]

They're pretty black, but don't look wet.

Clean them and try them.

Yeah I would clean them and try them. If you decide to replace them make sure you call first to make sure they have the right plugs as they are not that common.

You'll also want to stop running premium. And run some Techron fuel cleaner through it.
