My son will one day scare the crap outta me

I don't normally talk about family, what happened during the day, etc....  but this I had to share.


This AM we decide to head over to toy-r-us to see if we can find a radio flyer wagon for my 18 month old son.  After telling Nicholas that we are planning to go, I ask him to get his shoes:




We head over to toys-r-us, and find that radio flyer wooden red wagons are....$150.  Yikes! 

Of course, we mosy over to the bicycles and scooter stuff first....where mr Nicholas finds this:



He starts looking at it, smiling that big toothy grin of his.


Wait a minute....no way he is looking at it pretty carefully:








I was SO FREAKING PROUD!

The kid is a year and a half for crying out loud....I dunno much about the age when kids start to do things, but he seems pretty young

I learned all my mechanical skills by actually wrenching on things when I turned 16, because I couldn't afford to pay someone else to do what I wanted to do.  I learned how to TIG weld when I was 22 by going out and buying a welder, and burning up a lot of metal.

I'm not going to push him into anything he doesn't want to do.  But I can only imagine how good I might have been at some of these things had I learned them from someone while growing up.  I can't wait to teach this little guy all I can (providing he wants to learn it).

Both my brother and I gave our folks a lot of grief over the years, but we turned out OK, and like to let them know every now and then how grateful we are for they being our parents.

Thanks for sharing, and I want to say that I think you have the right attitude.  I am ambivalent when it comes to some future day when my kids ask me to ride a bike.
I felt the first stirrings of a parental double standard coming on when I was sitting at Starbucks with my daughter one day, and her legs went kickitty-kick with excitement when guy on a Harley rolled up.  "Oh, hell no," I thought.  This was immediately followed by a, "wait a second..."
Back in my formative years, I wasn't able to think about considering planning on riding a bike until I was "able to pay for my own funeral" per my dad.  That will probably be the de facto rule my kids will probably have to slowly wear me down on, should they show an interest in the future.  Like I said, ambivalent, and double standard...

Nichcolas is a really good looking kid.  Too bad he couldn't have had RED hair.

You should'a heard my family scream when my daughter got her first dirt bike at nine I think.  Everybody figured it was MY fault - wife did the whole thing. The family was stunned.

She's 16, on her third dirt bike, drives a screamingly fast turbo SRT4 Dodge and is absolutely determined to ride my S4RS very soon. The son I always wanted.
