Plugs

No...not spark plugs, not hair plugs...certainly not butt plugs.....I am talking tire plugs. I have a slow leak that must have started to develop sunday during my ride up to Truchas....is it safe to use plugs for short term till you can get it in to the shop? I need to replace the rear tire any way but my bike is about 100miles from PJs and I dont have a stand to use to take the wheel off...thanks!!

If it's in the meat of the tire, and not the sidewall, you should be OK. Some folks will tell you it's unsafe, but I've never heard anyone report a problem with a plug in short term, limp-along use. BMW sells (or did sell) an emergency tire plug kit for motorcycles, so how bad can it be?

I agree with Cloner....as long as you take it easy and monitor the feedback from your rear wheel
you should be OK.

I rode a center plug for over 700 miles on a trip, had zero issues.
I had the plug kit just in case...It saved my ass

same here. i always carry the plug kit.
that being said, Im not sure i would ride the bike with a plug permanently... dunno. guess it would just give me the hee bee jeebees to ride hard into a corner with plugs. I keep mine for more of a save my ass in the middle of nada type of scenario.
I rode one from Ouray to Woodland Park (4+ hours) without issue and then had the tire replaced.

I put 2000 miles on a plugged tire with no problems. And I rode it like I always do, so it took some punishment.
Obviously was checking tire pressure frequently. It would also depend on the plug. The cheapo ones you find at most auto parts stores have sucked for me. I use the Stop 'n' Go plug kit now. Top quality and the plugs are smooth bore/mushroom tipped, very nice!

Really, I've tried(we all know I love to redneck engineer) to plug moto tires and have failed epically. No dice, hell I tried throwing in some fix-a-flat too, now that was a mess.

well, everything sounded good till this dude...
Thanks every one for your input!....greatly appreciated. It does not look like it is a fast leak...I put 32lbs in sunday night and last night it still had about 24...unless I managed to seal it by parking on it...which is doubtful. Anyway...thanks again.

Hey if it comes down to it, I'd listen to them before me. They all have prettier bikes.
