Another mirror option...
Someone suggested FAR mirrors to me while I was looking for a set of 696 mirrors. I may be ordering a set of these:

I just put a set of Monstrack mirrors on my 695. I think they look fantastic, and they have 3 lengths to choose from for best personal visibility. I don't know if they are compatible with the 696 but you might want to look at them. monstrack.com

Thanks for that tip Dano!! I like those! A bit pricier than I wanted to pay, but at least you get a PAIR of well crafted mirrors for the cost of a single Rizoma.

Thanks everyone who voted and/or posted comments.
When I started this evaluation, I didn't think I would want to use bar-end mirrors (aka CRG LS). However, further discussion and evaluation has prompted me to reconsider. I really like the way my bike looks without any mirrors and the bar-end style support that aesthetic better than other designs. As a result, I took the advice of a member here and have ordered a pair of the (cheap) "Third Eye" bar-end mirrors in order to test how I like the bar-end mirror location.

At first I suspect I will test them with my stock mirrors in place and then again without my stock mirrors. This way I will know for certain if the bar-end style works well for me.
Look for more to come at the conclusion of my field test.

Field Tested the inexpensive Third-Eye Bar-End Mirrors this weekend.
I must admit, after several hours on the road with them, I was pleasantly surprised how good they looked and how well they performed. For a person who was originally dead set against Bar-End Mirrors, I found the Convex design and far left and right location to provide excellent visual coverage behind me. Initially I did have to get use to the new location, but I found over time that the wider field of view in these mirrors provided a lot of information with just a glance. I didn't have to "look" for what was around me, I could quickly "see" it.
As the optimum riding season is quickly drawing to a close, I think I will keep these inexpensive alternatives mounted for now and replace them with the CRG LS come Spring. I am thinking that the adjustable CRG Shortys would be an excellent complementary addition also.

HI Ducgirl,
I have the CRG's and love em, I just wish I was in Florida so I could be riding now, my bike away till March.
I have no regrets with em.
Enjoy

Fl and curved roads, nope, I don't think so, but Hey i could be wrong.
I guess you can say I'm lucky to live in the mountains of western Canada, great twisties.
But when its -20 and snowing, Florida looks real good with flat straight roads.

Thanks!

I did the same thing you're doing with the 3rd eye mirrors. After a while, I realized that they really work very well and I decided to keep them instead of dropping all that $$$ on crg's. I 'd rather spend the $$$ on tires, but that's just me.

Are the 3rd eye mirrors made from plastic and do they have a convex mirror? Are they foldable, and do they vibrate alot blurring the image behind you?
thanks

for anyone on the fence about the crg mirrors, they have additional benefits.
last spring i had a low speed get off, and not only did the CRG survive, but it acted almost like a frame slider, holding my bike just far enough off the ground to avoid any damage to the tank (mixed blessing now that i think about it)
anyway......cheers!
