as interesting as it is...
i would be more likely to wait a year, see how the product pans out in the real world.

if i were in the market for a smart phone right now, it would probably be a blackberry (not storm), since i refuse to do business with ATT until/or when they get their network up to speed with the iphone drain

I like a physical keyboard, especially for a bidness phone.  I am also shackled to Verizon for work, so this might be a win for me.

My wife and I shopped for phones last week - we are on AT&T for our personal phones, and it looks like an iPhone is in her near future.  I was surprised by how shitty the other phones were by comparison.  We looked at a Motorola that looked and felt like a universal remote with a full keyboard.  It is as though cell phone makers are now either cranking out iPhone pretenders, text-only plan phones (full keyboards, tiny screens), or they are just giving up.  Even if it is not fully cooked yet, Android may breathe some new life into the non-iPhone market, so yay for that.

to me, the real attraction to a blackberry is their integration with corporate mailservers. without that, i'd prefer a much more open option (read: more user installable apps to choose from).

i currently carry a blackberry (on the at&t network), but only because my company pays for my 24/7 leash. aside from not having coverage in the middle of nowhere, i've never really had an issue with the at&t network.

note: i was spoiled with palm/pilot from the early us robotics days (pre-3com) and hopped on the treo bandwagon when they were first released.

i found this interesting... it may not be "iphone drain," but simply having a misconfigured data network:

The fact that it is not an iPhone is a killer app.

Ivan - I don't want to carry around a pocket full of gadgets. That's why I like convergence devices like the iPhone & the Droid. It's all computer stuff so why not have it all on one computer?

My wife and I got the new Droids from Sprint a few months ago.

She still has hers; I returned mine for a Blackberry a week after getting it.

I think I had a defective battery as that thing make the beast with two backsing sucked; my wife's didn't have that problem.

I literally could have a full charge, set it on my desk, not touch it all day, and it would be dead by the time I left to go home.

It was insane.

Also, I didn't use all the functions on the phone. I basically facebook, text, email, and read the news.

Therefore, the blackberry suits my needs best.

However........that new droid is pretty damn bad ass. I miss the automatic weather forecast background. It was pretty damn cool.

My wife feels the same way about it. Not sure if the droid X is the same one she has, but it is the big touch screen one.

First gen BB Storm owner and when my new every 2 thing came up with Verizon, I ordered the Droid X. Still waiting to get it but I have a feeling I am going to be pleased with my choice based on reviews. My research was directed at finding the reviews of BB users who switched and what their reactions were.

I have been a long time BB user and love them as a simple messaging phone. But I use everything from the GPS to the browser to the media player on mine and find it severely lacking in most of those respects. Hence the reason for the change as the Android OS is definitely more directed at the mobile mixed media user.

Did you like your storm?

I have heard nothing but shit about them from my friends that had them.

Most dumped them rather quickly.

I've been using a Blackberry Curve for the last 2-ish years and just got my Droid X about a week ago.

make the beast with two backsing love it.

I downloaded doubletwist and haven't used my iPod touch since I got it.  The GPS works really well on it and videos stream from youtube really smoothly.

There're a ton of great free apps available for it too.  A lot of fun stuff.

As far as battery life goes, if you use the display non-stop you can kill a charge in 3 hours.  But it has no problem lasting all day and into the night on a charge if you aren't using it continuously.  If you're going to be watching a movie or something on it, just plug it in.

@cyrus
If you got them a couple months ago they weren't the droid x's, it's only been out since ~july 15.  The storm got a bad name because people that wanted the iPhone and not at&t got it and expected it to be an iPhone killer/replacement, that it is not, it's a blackberry.  It works just like any other os5 but with a touch screen. BB's are awesome work tools but not a fun device, the DX is.

@ZLTFUL
I also came from the storm, after a pearl and a curve.  You are going to make the beast with two backsin love it

Just got my 16 piece accessory bundle in the mail today.  $22 shipped.  2 batteries, a separate charger, windshield mount and a few cases.  Good deal, just took 18 days to get.

I have the HTC evo through Sprint and I love this phone.  The size took some getting used to and the battery life Sucks.  It will be nice having a backup, or two, for extended periods of time without an outlet.

My last phone was a Samsung Instinct and had a Pearl before that.  This thing is the bomb!
