Considering Selling the Monster - Pricing?

G'day all

I have been considering selling the Monster, it has been fun, but a number of things mean that a bike and car will become impractical in the near future, this has not been an easy decision, I have had many a sleepless night dwelling on this decision, also with the local crackdown from the local Plod, it means riding on the road is becoming more painful.

The wife is against me selling the bike, but she understands my decision and it makes sense for us for the short term, this does not mean I'm getting out of bikes altogether, it just means a small step away for a while. (And I'll still keep hanging around here annoying you guys   )
but when I do return to bikes I may return with something like a Multistrada, less road focused and able to cruise along some dirt roads.

The only thing I am wondering is what I could ask for the bike?
mods:
- Termi Exhaust/ECU and Air filter
- Ohlins rear Shock/Rebuilt front Forks
- Goldline 320mm Front brakes with 4 Piston Brembo's
- Painted Swingarm
- Carbon Fiber bits everywhere
- Stainless steel Bolt kits
- TPO Reg Kit
- TPO Breather kit
- TPO spark plug leads
- LED Tail light
- Rizoma LED indicators
- Rad Guard Oil Cooler cover
- Speedymoto Risers
- Tinted Windscreen

But I will also include:
- All the old removed OEM parts and the OEM Rear Shock (Showa)
- Anderson Stands (Front and rear)
- Geza Gear bike cover (made for the bike)
- Brand new Shim kit
- Any specialist tools needed for the bike that I have purchased:
EG: Sockets, Speedymoto SSSA Socket, Torque Wrench, Valve adjustment tools,

The bike has been serviced by the local dealer, except for the 24000 km service (Which I did myself, The joys of working at a Ducati Dealer, learn how to do it yourself ) So Shims, Belts, Fuel filter, spark plugs, Brake fluids, Oil and Filter, etc and the Clutch nut check are all done.

The bike is ready to ride, and is 12000km's away from it's next service.
I'm not in any great hurry to move it on, So any thoughts on a price I could ask for it?

A lot of your custom gear and bling wont count for "squat" on a resale unfortunately. It might be worth removing a lot of it and selling it seperately. (here of Fleabay ?)

2 or 3 grands worth of bling wouldnt increase the value of the bike by anywhere near the equivalent amount!!   

A sad decision that has to be made I guess?? I've seen too many mates do the same thing (Kids, house, school. career) and end up never getting another bike!!

I considered breaking it up into the performance parts and selling them off separately, but I want to sell it as is.
I'm not hugely worried about making the maximum amount of $$$ for the bike, Redbook says I should expect between $10000 to $12000 for the bike, so I figure add a grand or 2 for all the extras, and move on.

Sorry CairnsMan can't help. I honestly don't want to know how little my bike is worth ... your best bet is to have a look around the online classifieds and see what asking prices are. You are in a much better position than any of us to know what the local market is like ... it is only 'worth' as much as somebody is willing to pay for it.

The problem with your mods is that you have to have an S2R800 to see the value of most of them ... but they're hardly likely to be looking for another one. 'Modified' and 'last serviced by me' may not be big selling points to the general motorbike buying public.

I am not trying to influence your decision making (hey, I don't know your motives) but I kinda agree with Stopintime ... how close are you to realising that there is more value in holding onto the bike rather than realising losses on the bike and all the mods?

With shim kit and tools, etc you are looking for a very unique purchaser ... but if you find one they may place some value against the work you have put into the bike.

Well that's sad news.
That was pretty much my rule of thumb when I was selling the 620.
Market value plus 2k for the added value.
I ended up breaking mine down and selling the bits for about $2.5k
It is a pain in the ass to strip it down but the chances of finding a willing buyer in your neck of the woods might be hard.

Anyhow, I wish you luck with it.

I don't want any of the bits, but I suspect you'll be doing yourself out of a couple of grand if you don't refit the stock shock, exhaust, and ecu before you sell it. You _will_ get 2 or 3 grand for that lot here or on eBay, and you _won't_ add 1000 to the sale price of the bike leaving them on...

yep parts are worth much more off the bike than on.
unless you find a Monster buyer who has done their research and knows what all the bits are worth to buy.
part it out and get more cash.

This is not set in stone yet, just throwing around Ideas at this early stage and figuring if we decide to sell the bike, which would be the best way to go.

But the old girls not going anywhere yet.

If the Bike and all it's special parts are paid for, then it is hard to understand any reason to sell it. You are obviously very passionate about your ride and the results of your labor are invaluable (to you). Giving up a ride like that seems drastic to me because if I were limited to just  one week of riding a year, that alone would be worth the price of admission (namely insurance and service).

If you desperately need to raise $10K for whatever reason, selling the bike maybe one solution, but certainly there must be others (or at least 10 others at $1000 ea). The bitterness you will feel afterwards will last way longer than the financial stress or it's momentary relief.
