Cheap Gauge options

Ok, So I sold the gauges that are on my bike in anticipation of getting an Acewell 4000. Unfortunately they havent been released to the public yet. So I need to find an extremely cheap solution to put on my bike until the Acewell comes out. Emphasis on extremely cheap

I've seen the other acewells, and the vapours and the motogagets and all of that... i need something that gives me speed and rpms. Any suggestions, shoot'em my way please!

.....funny you should ask that sir, it just so happens it does! I disconnected the gauge from the wiring harness and it starts and runs fine, However, i have not yet removed the AIM wiring harness from the ducati harness. Any chance that when i do that the bike wont start? I know the feel of the engine pretty well in each gear, so i suppose i would have a decent general idea of how fast i was going

you gotta have a speedo to keep it legal.

however, if you just attached a cheap model from jc shitney you wouldn't get ticketed if you were pulled over, unless you were speeding of course..


...and then you could say your speedo was malfunctioning and get the ticket waived..(dep on your jurisdiction...)

you could use a GPS as a Speedo, more accurate than anything else anyway...

this is a really nice unit, I paid $500 when it first came out. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3480192&CAWELAID=308067378 It's available refurbed for $100. You can also look on ebay and other sites for deals.

I wouldnt go too cheap on  your projects. The vibration alone will kill the electronics if its sub-par quality at best.

I hear ya, What i'm lookin for is something that will tide me over until the gauge I want is released. I got a GPS and used it on a ride yesterday, it seemed to work pretty well  Unless some other ideas come up, i think im gonna stick with that. Thanks everyone

+1.  These are cheap and work great.  Might not be totally legal since they usually aren't lit but I doubt that will be an issue if you're pulled over.  Also, they're wicked small.

The wireless ones are subject to interference problems.  I have gone 85 mph at a stoplight, and ridden 10 miles at 0 mph.

The wired ones are more reliable and mine seems to match really well with roadside speed displays.

Couple caveats - your wheel size has to be entered accurately, and they weren't really intended for speeds much above 50 mph.  And I don't know how you would attach the magnet without spokes but I'm sure someone will be creative with some epoxy or something.
