So there is a SSS for sale on the board and I've been doing research trying to find out how difficult the conversion would be, what would be involved, etc. I searched the boards and sent some PMs but nothing really definitive. Anyone have any info? Think the chain and the shock linkage will line up? What additional parts would be involved? Fabrication needed? any info whatsoever...
Thanks!

Chain and shock linkage should line up.

OEM S4 shock reservoir will hit the swingarm.

You'll need the rear header pipe from an S4R.
Then some fab work to get it to hook up to the midpipe.
Or just get a complete S4R exhaust....

I *think* the swingarm will interfere with OEM footpeg brackets.
If you convert to S*R footpeg assemblies, you won't have any passenger pegs.

as far as the shock, i have the ohlins with the remote preload adjustment ( http://www.ohlins.com/Our-products/Motorcycle/Products/Sport/DU-046/)

Would those exhaust issues go away if i were to go with an Ex-Box?

I wouldnt be opposed to swapin out rearsets if it made the conversion seamless....

dang Speeddog, you make it sound so easy!

Likely that the reservoir of the Ohlins would hit the swingarm.
Dunno if anyone's tried it, though.

Someone here tried the OEM Sachs on an S*R, and it hit.

Ex-Box for S4R would work, I imagine.
I don't know if those come with headpipes or not...

I wouldn't call it easy, but I think it's do-able.
You'll need lots of parts.

Thanks for the heads up. I think this may be reserved for a project when all my tools have been unpacked from the recent move and I've got some space to spread my wings (and by wings I mean parts scattered across the floor)

The S4R Ex-box uses the OEM header pipes.

only one problem with the swap is the speedo sensor itself.  It uses the rear brake disk bolts to trigger.  S4R/S2R uses 4-bolts I believe.  S4 uses 6 bolts to attach the disk.  Thus your speedo will read @33% slow.

Easiest solution is to make an adapter that attaches to the front wheel disk with (4) bolts and mount your speedo sensor on the front wheel then.

Other option is to get an electronic speedo converter kit -- but I've never tried so can't make any recommendations.

The speed sensor reading has no affect on the ECU functionality ala mapping/timing.  Thus not required other than to know how fast you are going.

Otherwise all the parts will bolt on without problem.  Highly recommend using a S4R style rearset.  You will need a S4R configuration exhaust due to the differing rear exhaust cylinder routing through the swingarm -vs- what you have currently.

Luckily for me, i dont have the stock speedo!  as a matter of fact,  i dont have any speedo right now, im using a gps unit and waiting for acewell to release their 4000 unit ( http://www.electrosport.com/street/speedometers-series-4000.php )

so everything will bolt right up? I've got a DP Ecu, if that makes any difference.

As far as exhaust goes, i've got a full termi setup right now, if i pull that off and get an exbox, i should then only need the s4r header ( or does that exbox bolt to my s4 header?) , correct? or could i just get the S4 ex-box ( http://tinyurl.com/ylcqqsq ) from the looks of it, it doesnt interfere with swingarm location....thoughts?

You could still run a speedo from the front original point. I kept my standard front end.

Basically you need as follows
S2/4r swingarm/hub and wheel.
S4r exhaust system inc headers and bypass pipe or a custom made job to change the increased length on rear header to go through swingarm.
An s4r rear shock or s2r non adjustable or and ohlins shock with remote unit.
S2/4r footrests/brake/gear units or it is possible to keep standard fiited with race rearsets but will need custom exhaust ( someone called Panther is doing this mod right now on a m750ie on the UKMOC forum.
I used standard s2r footrest and cut off old one and fabricated a similar bracket and welded to frame as per s2r as I pillion.

If you dont use the s2/4r footrests you can use the standard swingarm pivot shaft I believe but I had the s2/4r one which is longer to take the large fix bolts.

Thats pretty much it oh and a single side wheel.

Jobs a goodun

Heres the other new project here which is ongoing and he's taking his time. I did mine in about 10 weeks in the garage.

Thanks for the help Albie!

for the shock, is this the one with the remote you were talking about? http://www.ohlins.com/Our-products/Motorcycle/Products/Sport/DU-046/

for the exhaust, does the s4r system bolt directly onto the engine if i get a full system, or does it need to be made custom?

As far as rearsets go, do the s2/4r rearsest bolt directly to the present holes?

thanks again!

ok, i've gone full swing into sourcing the parts for the conversion and I've got two questions:

1. as far as headers go, I know the s4r headers will match  up to my s4, but will other SSS headers work? like an s2r 800 or 1000?

2. I havent sourced a swingarm bolt for the SSS, but i do have the stock one from my DSS. Can I use that? i know it's going to be shorter, but I dont have to run S4r rearsets if it will work. if it wont work, could i just use spacers to fill the spot where the s4r rearsets would be and use my stock s4 rearsets?

thanks for the help anybody who feels like answering  ;D
