This NYMMC thing is pretty inactive it seems? We have a ton of members from what the list indicates but no one seems to have much to say... Whats up with NYC Monster peeps...? lol
We seem to be a pretty introverted group....
What's up with that?

I usually only post up here when looking for people to ride with.  I do check it frequently looking for more of He Man's shenanigans.  Also, since I am in western jersey, I am further isolated from the parts of the state that are much more congested.

I have checked out other regional boards, and it does seem like this one is rather sparse.

looking forward to the start of snowmobile season!!   chug

Some people moved on and there lots of new people.  IMO, NYMMC is also more of a message board than a club since there is no organization (officers, etc).  Maybe we need a get together so the new folk can meet the old folk and the old folk can reunite.

Yeah I follow that this is not a club of any sort... I guess my curiousity was more about the community... I'm not a club kinda guy... gives me hives. As someone else mentioned above... I have checked out a few of the other boards from time to time and there are various dialogues and so on about local issues or riding or where to ride or gatherings or whatever... thats a lot of or's... I know I know...

At any rate, I just thought I'd ask... I went to San Fran and hung out with some people I met on the SF MOB local board from the DMF and wound up with a place to stay, a bike, some gatherings, and some good friends... was just a warm and welcoming experience in that community... Made me wonder what became of the NYC Ducati, or motorcycle, community if there was one...

and maybe it would be worth getting everyone out and together sometime to meet old and new folks... even if they are from Jerzyyyyy...  Shocked

It's winter time... Can always have a  drink...

In my experience the West Coast DMF'ers are more socially oriented.  The SoCal DMF host's "Italian Bike Night II" every Thursday without fail.  When I was out there these guys were people I'd socialized with quite often.  Some of 'em were really great people and some of 'em were not so great people.  That said, you have to realize that:

1. Lane splitting is legal in Cali, making bikes much more practical as an everyday item.
2. Everybody drives everywhere all the time, making bikes much more practical as an everyday item.
3. You can ride for 10 months a year in Cali.  It's a year-round thing and much closer to a lifestyle rather than a hobby.  There are tons of bikes all the time.
4. There are at least five Factory Authorized Ducati stores/shops in Southern Cali alone, not to mention the SF Bay area.

And in reference to #3, unless you're spending hundreds on electric clothing or are a super badass tough guy (like Howie), you've probably stopped riding until April because it's FREAKIN' COLD OUT THERE!

It goes in cycles (pardon the pun). For a while we had a fairly active community in NYMMC with various people all trying to get rides together. I was a member of several boards in the NY area & used to go out on rides. After a while the people who would often try to organize kind of gave up. The guys who ended up forming SuspectsUnlimited.com were regularly posting their rides up here. The was a little tension that basically triggered their exodus away from NYMMC. We had other members that would try to get rides together but, for various reasons ended up riding less on the street & doing more track days. Some events for DESMO used to come up as well but that's dwindled a little too due to the various prolific members sort of going different directions. We've also had a pretty shitty year as far as weather is concerned so that hasn't helped either.

Not trying to have a go at anyone but the board is quiet because the members are quiet. That's all there is to it. If you want to get rides or events together, work it out & post up.

Booo bad pun of the year award to you   Grin

Like most people said, some people left, some don't talk, I think the most part is because of the long off season.  We need to start a regular meet.  Maybe a suspects unlimited nymmc once a month bike meet?  This place has also been dead because I haven't been around  Tongue I blame my injury.  But I'll be posting more often here in the future.

Linearpower, you're doing a good job of getting stuff together, thanks for trying. Don't give up, it'll take a little while for people to get back into the habit of checking/posting here when they want to ride.

I heart you Pak.  laughingdp

there are still a few more days I believe to sign up for the DESMO Holiday Party, if you're interested in hangin' with duc people.  There will be more great stuff raffled off, I believe Roy from Absolute has donated a Season Pass for the raffles waytogo

Please join us for DESMO's Ninth Annual Holiday Party, at 7:30PM on Saturday,
December 5, 2009, in West Nyack, NY.

Featuring:
A private room with your DESMO friends/family
Our world-renown door prize raffle and Chinese auction
The Dezzies
Unmasking of our 10th Anniversary Logo and competition winner
And so much, much, more!

Cost is only $25/person ($12.50 for children 12 - 16).

Full details, including payment information at: www.desmoducati.org/hp2009.html

I used to post up rides, but don't really ride on the street anymore.  I ended up doing something like 16 trackdays this season and maybe only 2,000 street miles if that.  I led one DESMO ride this summer.
I've also haven't had much time to post anywhere anymore as I've been spending much of my spare time fighting anti-motorcycle legislation in NYC.  Heads up, there will be a new forum I will be posting soon, for a new NYC based Motorcycle Rights Organization that Howie and myself are integral parts of, when that happens I will invite everyone to join and hope to gain support from all NYC riders.
