Unfortunately I am not the proud owner of a Ducati Monster :( but imitation is the greatest form of flattery! I am building a custom motor cycle and would love to put the Ducati monster seat on it. Will someone please measure under the front part of the seat that comes in contact with the tank for me? I just need the narrow dimension and the wide dimension. Thank you for your time! [bow_down]

Not real clear on which parts of the seat you want measured.....

Also, FYI the monster seat isn't of particularly amazing or useful construction, it's kind of shitty IMO. That said I doubt it will really work with anything but a monster tank and at any other angle than factory, did I mention the base is just plastic with tabs and a complicated latching mechanism?

Im welding my own sub fram to acomedate for the seat so the plastic will be fine I am a manucfacturing engineer with plenty of machining and design experience so I am sure I will be able to figure something out to get that sucker to mount up on my bike. Im sorry if its not clear what I need measured so I made this little picture to show ya! I need the widths of the under side of the seat not the top where u sit. THANKS!

FYI...

the seats changed in the year 2000.

I can measure an earlier seat, but I'm not positive it will be the same as a later model seat.

I think the seats changed in some way from 2002+ ?  At least that's what's implied from various catalogs if I want to order a seat for my '03 Monster.

On my 2003 M800Sie:

A = 9-3/4" (inside edge to inside edge)

B = 5-1/2" (1/2" gap at centerline)

you'll also have to account for the angle of the seat. since the frames changed on the 3 generations (851,ST and new frames) each seat has a different angle of mounting. and of course the frame rails are most likely different. the way the hook in the front and where the seat latch point is as well.

geez, did i make this more difficult than it should be.

In the end.
A: width at front
B: width at rear of tank
C: frame width (at resting points on frame)
D: distance from B to latch point
E: distance from B to resting points
F: seat angle
G: front latch type and locations

I got 9 1/2 and 5 1/8 (with a 10mm centerline gap).
The seat is flexible where the measurements are taken, so this isn't exact. You'll figure it out [thumbsup]

FWIW you can download model and year specific Ducati parts manuals at http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/service/maintenance.jhtml ...they are a great resource
