Support walls out, beam in place, wiring done, etc.

what are those jack studs holding up?  it doesn't look like anything is there.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

There is a piece of 1/2" steel sandwiched between 2x8's in there.

well, there you go. i-beam or L-beam? what's the floor?  I assume that's not a concrete foundation, do you have enough floor support for that?

the original wall spread the weight over the length of it, so psi wasn't as high.. just a thought?

I had an engineer spec it all out.  It is a 1/2 flitch plate in the beam in the ceiling. Jack studs rest on a steel I-beam in the basement.  Jack studs in the right of the pic are resting on the beam right above the oversized lally column.  Jack studs on left rest on the beam above the brick column on the foundation that supports said beam.

Floor upstairs is no more lively than before and not a single crack has emerged in the plaster either up or downstairs.

I think I'm good.......

Buttoned back up and 2 coats of mud.  Chipping away at this thing as I have time.  New furnace and AC coming on the 25th with a ductless mini-split for the upstairs and my office.

Progress looks great -

Don't forget the "after" pics

Nice work!
Desmosedici - it's the new Paso (except the bodywork doesn't fit as well)

I'm also looking for opinions on a few things.  I'm going for a more modern look and that corner cabinet seems out of place since it has a country/victorian sort of vibe.  I've got two options; tear it out or take the top off of it and build some moulding that looks more modern.  It would be pretty easy to take it in a craftsman/art nouveau direction.

Thoughts?

I'd re-do it the way you want before tearing it out.

Excellent point!  Moulding is cheap.....
