LED vs LCD TV

LCD vs Plasma was an easy choice for me.  I went with a new Panasonic plasma (one of only two or three brands available in Australia, dammit) 'cause it was better for gaming.  Its faster phosphor decay means that video game pixels illuminate and fade much, much faster than LCD (like, a thousand times faster!).  This means that LCD blurs incredibly badly, but plasma is as fast as an old CRT: basically instant.

Plasma has better off-axis viewing (you don't have to sit in the sweet spot), but LCD has better saturation (more vivid colours).  Plasma is heavier, and throws off more heat, and consumes more power.  My 50" plasma is nearly as heavy as my 29" CRT, where an LCD would be much lighter.  Plasmas can also be larger than LCDs.

I can't watch LCD TV.  The constant blurring drives me absolutely insane.  I'm jealous of the colour: for photos, LCD would be better.  For movies and TV shows with a lot of action, or high-contrast areas like concert lights on a black background, plasma kicks ass.

Plasma's are typically reserved for large screens, and are cheaper for the same screen-size compared with LCD.  Modern plasma TVs have a half-life of 100,000 hours - roughly 20 years of 8-hours-a-day watching, before they're half as bright as new.  Modern plasmas don't suffer burn-in like the old ones do, LCDs don't have this problem at all.

I use my old hacked Xbox to play Super Nintendo games, and I tell you what - those pixels are a centimeter tall and Mario never looked so good.  =D

Wait a few years until LED means organic LED - that could replace LCD (LED and CFL) and do some crazy sh!t.

i managed to pick up a pricematched LG fully backlit LED-LCD 47" for $1299 at best buy... it was a make the beast with two backsing steal... Supposed to be delievered next thursday
