I should add.

I've never seen flushing them and running thinner oil do any good. in my experiance it will only make it worse.

there is bearing damage, I guarantee it. running thinner oil in places where there is wear is only going to make it worse, the tolerances aren't as tight as they should be there for the oil pressure will be lower causing further problems.

the only sludge engine I didn't replace (because the guy is a cheap make the beast with two backs) now runs on straight 50 synthetic. anything lighter and the oil pressure light comes on.  that asshole sold the car on e-bay.  :-\

they need to pull the oil pan and inspect (also remove the sludge from there) I bet there is metal in the pan.

I've replaced 1.8t's, all burned up on 30k mile oil changes. but they are turbo and run pretty hot. I make it a point to tell them $5k buys a lot of oil changes or one engine.  ;D

If it were me and I opened that valve cover, I would just go ahead and get him a estimate to replace the engine.. not worth my time to clean it out, then 5k miles later it eats a main bearing any way..



Man I think I replaced about 10 1.8t's in my 2 years as an Audi tech.  Then they started that BS where you would change the pipes and run that cleanser through. Never thought it would last but switched careers before I could find out.

it doesn't

oddly enough, if you change the oil, even every 10k and use synthetic (I recommend 5k and synthetic) they just don't seem to sludge up. some people just don't seem to get the "maintenance" part of owning a vehicle. :P

Porsche oil change intervals are 15k for 996/986 series, 20k for 1st Gen cayenne V8, Turbo, 997, 987.  2nd Gen cayenne and 997/987 are 12k.  Never seen lubrication problems yet if you stick to the maintenance schedule and use the recommended Mobil 1.  On the other hand I have seen the no oil changes for 60k slug motors more often than I want to.  And as Acalles said, no point in flushing them at that point.

wtf...20,000 miles between oil changes?

why am i changing the oil every 5k on my bike that runs full syn?!
