It's one of their nicer roads, actually. They call that paving.

'Cep'n that is really I-70.  [roll]

Black Bear Pass is much more technical.  [evil]

For grins, look up where the name Telluride came from.

It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

From wiki. . .

"The town was named after the chemical element tellurium, which was never actually found in the mountains of Telluride. Tellurium is a metalloid element sometimes associated with deposits of gold and silver. An alternate theory for the naming of Telluride is that it is a contraction of "to hell you ride". Telluride's mines were rich in zinc, lead, copper, silver, and, of course, gold."

or...

"Back in the day.. and I mean the late 19th century day.. it was pretty difficult to get to the mining town of Telluride, CO.  The mule teams would haul you over Black Bear pass â€" a scenic but treacherous route through the San Juan mountains.  Today, that route is considered expert 4×4 terrain that should only be traversed by short wheelbase vehicles driven by competent pilots.  Mistakes involve a several hundred foot freefall â€" and a possible violation of your rental agreement.  Before the town sprung up, the locals would tell people about to set off on Black Bear pass that it's “To Hell You Ride”.. thus the name “Telluride”!"

Looks kind of like that thing they call a road just outside of Aspen on the way to Independence pass...

Lincoln Rd?

Schofield Pass (between Marble & Crested Butte) is much better.

Not sure the name of it.  Just remember it being a single lane road that some ass hat in a Lexus thought I should get off of so he could get thru.

The uphill vehicle backs up until there's a wide spot.  Not sure why it's not the down hill one - but that's what the CO trail road laws say. Though they say that, most folks on the downhill side will defer, and go back down to a wide spot. At least that was my experience going up past Marble and Crystal on the way to the crystal river mill

As I was headed up, I found a dude in a caddy who'd gotten it high-centered... dumbass obviously ignored the signs along they way that said 4wd only beyond this point...

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.
