"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Community mailbox takes care of that. I live on a private street and we have a contracted snowplow driver. He had been here 3 times before 6am this morning, but didn't show up again until after 4pm. The height of the snowfall here was about 630, so there was quite a bit of snow on the ground after his last job. Also, he plowed about 18" away from the curb on both sides of the street, only leaving enough room for one car to go down the street at a time....

Spoke to my brother out on eastern Long Island Sunday and he said he got 27". Neighbor with a Bobcat cleared his driveway.

We're in ["frickin", per Scottish] Albuquerque, where the low 50's, sunny weather allow riding the Monster. I'm always amazed when I see guys in shorts and t-shirts here on these December days.

The guy staying at our house on Long Island called yesterday to complain that he was snowed in. The driveway is about 100' long and on a side hill, so the snow often drifts over it at about 4'. I will point out to him that Barbara and I shovel it out ourselves every time it snows, and we're in our mid-60's. Wimp...

Spoke to a business acquaintance in Florida this morning who complained about the "freezing" temperatures (mid-50's). He said he was working at home because it was "too cold to go out."
Nobody said that I did. Everyone says that I would.

my mom called from jacksonville to let me know how unbearably cold it was down there.

When I traveled to Barbados awhile back, people were still talking about a cold snap that had happened twenty years before -- when the temperature got down into the high 50s!

the winter before i moved up to PA from AL, i remember being bundled up and shivering uncontrollably in the high 40's

2 years later it was low 20's and i was fine.
it's all about what you are used to

i still hate the cold though.
