I got injections in the base of my twig with no external anesthesia when I had a circumcision at 27. Not fun...

Exactly. why I call BS on "no pain" from the female poster. Guys tend to say it doesn't hurt during procuder.

Fine after.

I never said B didn't have pain.

It just wasn't as bad as the pain from the hurniated discs (back) that he has endured.

I was just pointing out that the doctor did not offer any valium/lidocane cream for him to use before the procedure to take the edge off.

B says you're all a bunch of wusses.   ;D

He didn't have any of the painkiller shit before his procedure.

The doctor did comment on the awesome shave job i did, not one knick.

Well, I give B a big  [bow_down]

When it comes to my boys, razors, needles, and scalpels, I will elevate myself from wussy to full blown pussy status.  I have been married for 8 years and was engaged for 7 more years (while my wife was at UNC).  I witnessed her give birth to our third child naturally after her epi. didn't take.  For that, she gets  [bow_down] [bow_down] [bow_down] [bow_down] [bow_down]!  Ain't nuthin' I can do that will top her on toughness.  So I am not even gonna try.  I am gonna take my excessive amount of valium, shave my balls, numb the shit out of them, hand them to a stranger to cut'em, come home, take my pain killers, sit on some frozen pea's, not watch the Panthers in the NFC championship, and enjoy a somewhat uncomfortable weekend with my wife, my remote, and no kids!

Good lord about the valium. Interesting he gave it to you for post op; Most give for pre-op to calm you down. Not sure of the benefit of post-op as it is not a painkiller. I'd keep it for other anxiety issues.

Just used lidocaine creme. HUGE difference, but if you aren't educated in the medical world you wouldn't know the difference between lidocaine (local anesthetic, non-narcotic) verse a pain killer which is a narcotic.

I shaved on my own and needed no touch up.

Yea, I doubt I need all of that valium.  Nice to have just in case.  I assume that was the purpose.  The cream is gonna be the kicker I believe.

WOW!  I hope they are a little more considerate with a 27 year old then they were with my newborn son.  That had to be painful.

I ruptured my L5 S1 disc about 6 years ago on my mtn. bike and lived with that for about two years before finally getting it removed and the vert fused together.  I would have to speculate that B is correct.  Shit with your spine is in a class all by itself.  That was 2 years of my 20's that I would love to have back.

Valium is not a pain killer at all.

The only reason they give it to you is to calm you down as some get nervous before the procedure.

I take Valium when I fly.

Any number of reasons

Could have been cosmetic, but I am guessing it was due to constant infections.

Studies have shown (not related to Nakid) that uncirumcised males are much more likely to transmit aids as that "area" holds in bacteria (study done in Africa).

The main reason for circumcision is to prevent infection in the area.

I was given valium to take before the procedure but didn't since I was driving myself to and from (in a stick shift!).

I never want to do it again, but it was the best $80 I've spent so far.

People often ask me how I could make that decision to not want kids so young. Over the years I've whittled it down to one sentence.

driving a manual car home afterward not advised.

Had mine clipped in the 90's. Got the same "don't drive for a day or two" warning. It was snowing petty good so we took the truck ( cummins, 5spd manual), after the wife scared me and some dude in a Honda. Pull over I'm driving. Ached a little, not bad though.

The worst part was having the short and curlies shaved.

My dear brother went to his appointment on his Pantah, and anyone who's ever ridden one knows how comfy those seats are, anyhow, poor b@$tard had to ride home standing up.
Somehow methinks he didn't quite think it through.

The opening of the foreskin can start to narrow in some people, well, guess what happens when things get exciting? The skin actually starts to tear. Ouch....

Haven't seen that study, doesn't really make sense to me since AIDS is caused by a virus, not bacteria.

And nowadays, circumcision is done mainly for religious or cosmetic reasons.

They don't give any anesthesia when they circumcise shortly after birth. The justification I have heard is that the child is not likely to remember the pain.

The reason for not driving after the procedure is due to the valium you can take.

No other reason at all.

Nakid - not sure sure of the study as virus vs bacteria. My guess main reason is using condoms.

Procedures for this seem to vary by quite a bit. I recently went to a specialty clinic in town where that is all they do. The procedure is billed as needleless (it is), and scalpeless (they use scissors instead  :P).

-No painkillers or anything beforehand
-One small injection through the skin and into each "vas" (the tube) prior to the procedure. No needle...painkiller is injected at high pressure through the skin. Felt like a light rubber band snap on the spot. Piece of cake.
-Tubes cut, carterized, and folded/stitched (I actually watched him do one of them..pretty neat. The "vas" looks like surgical tubing, and is bigger than I expected).
- No pain meds for after the procedure. Ibuprofen recommended if needed (I didn't).
- You can drive yourself home...but no activity that night. Nothing strenuous (or sex) for 7 days...no restrictions after 7 days. You can go to an office type job the next day.

Super easy. We were at the office for 1 hour. Procedure took 10 minutes. Cost - $940 without insurance (my insurance paid 2/3).

Mild pain that night, but nothing major. I had a beer and all was good. Slightly tender for about 3 days afterwards, but very minor. Felt normal after that.

1/2000 chance of failure later on (0.05%)

Submit a sample in 4-6 weeks to be sure it worked, and everything is "cleaned out". Samples are free, and will be done whenever requested forever.

I could have had my regular doctor do the procedure, but he recommended the specialty clinic. Vasectomies are like Lasik...pick a doctor that has done a TON of them for the best experience.
