theres a few combo 848/1098 fornt ends complete with forks, brakes, and masters with clip ons. Was wondering if it is a direct swap on as far as the rotor offset goes...aside from needing the get a new triple that is.
It depends on which Monster you're trying to install them on.
The S*4 Monsters are not a direct fit but still not too difficult. The axles are both 25mm so no worries there. The Rotor offset on the Monsters are 10mm where as the 1098/848 is 15mm so a spacer is required. Hooligan Machinist just made a set for me and made a few extras as well so there not hard to source right now.
The other issue is the hub on the wheels. It's wider on the 1098/848 so you'll need a spacer machined for the axle.
Here's a pic so you can see:
If the bike you're trying to do this to is a newer Monster without the speedo drive on the front axle then just use the stock spacer on that side. My 996 has the speedo drive so I used that but I had to source a different set of rotor bolts for clearance issues. Once the 5mm rotor spacer is installed the factory rotor bolts will make contact with the speedo drive. I special ordered a set of M8 1.25 x 25 stainless button head bolts that have a lower profile from a local hardware store which should do the trick. We're only talking about 1-2mm difference.
Here is a few pics of that side of the bike:
Other than that and the triples it's pretty stright forward. Just keep in mind that if you use the front end from a 1098 then you won't be using the spacers on the calipers. The 1098 uses 330mm rotors where as the 848/Monsters use a 320mm.
I'm in the middle of doing a 1098 swap on my 996 so I'll post up the entire process with pics once it's complete.
