Hey everyone, I have a 2007 SR4RS and last night while installing a new CC clutch cover I noticed that the springs were starting to get rusty.  Is this normal for such a new bike?

Should I remove them and and clean them up?  Or get news ones?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

Most people replace their springs with Stainless ones that don't rust. If it concerns you, I would buy those, they are only like $30 or so. You won't ever get the stock ones to stop rusting.

They are known to get a rusty "look".  I changed mine for stainless ones, together with an after-market pressure plate.  No more issues  ;)

Good to know, I'll look into stainless springs, thanks!  [thumbsup]

I wire brushed mine to get rid of most of the rust, then painted them black with a Rustoleum type of paint that I just happened to have around.  They've been looking fine for 18 months.

+1 - Stainless springs with some nice billet caps and you won't have to worry about rust again, unless you leave an open clutch in the rain. Then your clutch pack can start to rust.

+1 on the stainless springs.

some folks feel that they increase the stiffness of the clutch pull.

The SpeedyMoto brand specifically has been sited as having this side effect. I've never felt it myself, but that doesn't mean much as quite a few others have.

Retail is $39.95 and they come with the anodized caps and stainless bolts as well - definitely an improvement over stock aesthetically.

Yes, your springs will rust very quickly once you vent your clutch.  They'll look rusty and then start to creak after awhile.

You can get stainless springs and keepers from Chris at CA Cycleworks here.  They're $34 and come in your choice of colors for your keepers.  Chris is a great guy and super knowledgeable about parts and such.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask him.  Keep in mind that they will make a slightly stiffer clutch pull, but if I can deal with it, pretty much anyone can.  [thumbsup]

It's kinda like lifting weights,  you will get used to the stiffer clutch pull over some of the super easy ones and after awhile you won't notice it at all.

I used a wire brush then powdercoated the springs black with and the caps red  [thumbsup]
