So the upgrade to the 1098 forks on my 996 is underway.

These came in today. Merry Christmas to me!!!  ;D

Oh, I get it. Beginning with the brakes, piece by piece, you're going to build your 996 into a 1098  ;D

Naaa, I think the 996 is a better looking bike. It's hard to beat the iconic shape. I just wanted to do a little upgrade on the front suspension and I couldn't find anyone who made a fork cartridge for the Showas on the 996. So that led me to the 1098 forks which of course came with the added bonus of radial brakes.  [thumbsup]

isnt the 996 for sale?

It is.... or was.... or....Oh hell, I don't know.  [roll]

I guess it is but unless I get my asking price I'm keeping it. I won't take a dime under the $8500 asking price so if someone wants to pay that then I guess they can have it. Otherwise I'll keep it.

With that in mind I guess I'm planning on just keeping it. As we all know the market sucks right now but to be honest it won't break my heart to keep it.

I actually have someone coming to look at it on Saturday. We have discussed the fact that I won't take any less than the asking price so it's no surprise when he gets here.

We've also discussed the possibility of trading my 996 for his 999 so we'll see what happens.

^^^ why?
Questionable looking better, but vastly superior motor in design, longevity, and power.  Not to mention the chassis is leapws ahead as well,...

Excuse the typing, I tried to slice off one of my finge3rs and I'm tired of going bac kto edit everything I type.

Well put Theo. However, the 996 is a classic. It's like anything else with wheels, you can go out and buy a newer model with more power, better handling, and less maintenance but sometimes it's better to have a really clean example of the older classic version. Especially considering how good the older Ducati Superbikes were/are.

I have given a lot of thought to buying a newer one. I've ridden both the 848 and the 1098 and while they are both very nice they just don't give me that same warm IZ_ feeling when I look at them. I've also owned a 749 and 999 and again, they were both very nice bikes but not quite the same. That being said, I would love to own another 999 at some point. While most purists feel the 999 was just a bump in the road for Ducati, I really liked mine. If I had my choice I would buy a 999R over probably any other bike right now. If you look around they are very affordable in this market too!  [thumbsup]

Agreed, Tom. I've ridden more powerful, better handling bikes than my 996, but I've never ridden anything that was more fun. It's a visceral feeling.
Maybe I need to check out the market up there. The market for used bikes down here is not nearly as depressed as it was 6 months ago.

I've seen a few 999R's that sold for the $10K-$12K range over the past few months. One was an 05 and the other was an 06. I really wish I had the cash for either of those bikes.

In other news, a few more pieces of the puzzle came in today!!!

You'll have to be more specific. George has had many "moments". Lol

This particular episode, George got a massage, by a male massage therapist. "I think there was movement..."
