It's not a massive ride Rob, but it's not really easy either.

We left town at 1000. Stopped for lunch at Maydena at about 1130 (I think). Hung there for a while, then went straight through to the dam. I reckon we were at the dam for about half an hour, maybe more, before heading home.
We made a couple of little stops on the way home and I'd say we were back in town by about 1700.

One way, it's 170km. But like all Tassie back roads, it's twisty, narrow and quite bumpy in parts. Some sections are quite hard work (if traveling at warp speed).

It's a great day trip. Well worth it. I'll be going back out there for sure Grin

Sounds like a fine day trip!  Might have to give it some serious consideration.

Thanks.

Thanks.  I was wondering how the beers tied in.

What! I feel like I have been sold a dud. I thought Tassie was meant to have all the best roads ... smooth ribbons of bitumen, perfect for riding.

First thermals in the height of summer and now this!

Don't worry Betty, our highways are all twisty, with good or very good surfaces (just stay off the Midlands  vomit )

Our backroads such as this one don't really see much traffic. Just tourists heading out to the dam and the occasional Kombi Van taking supplies to the hippies environmentalists at Florentine Valley  Cheesy

This is what we consider a highway Targa Tasmania 2008 The Sidling
...here's some more of the same road Targa Tas 09 Weldborough Pass

This is just a couple of parts of the A3 between Launceston and St. Helens.
I think it is, without a doubt, THE BEST road in Tassie  [moto]
