OK,....funny story time.
2003, on a wildfire in Yellowstone NP. typically, firefighters will put their tents up as far away from each other as possible, preferably back in the trees at the edge of whatever field camp is set up in. you grab your privacy where you can...

but in Yellowstone, bears are a problem. so much so that the rangers are out at night with shotguns that shoot beanbags...to deter the bears. the firefighters decide that there is safety in numbers, and all the tents get clustered together out in the middle of the field. even the hotshots, who usually skip the tents and make due with space blankets and a watch cap, are huddled in the sparse protection offered by tents...completely psychological.

all is going well, until a herd of bison (at least 400 of the big hairy things) trudges through the sleeping area late one evening. it was a miracle that no one was trampled to death. numerous tents were destroyed.

so, that night, while the rangers are trying to move the Bison out of camp, and the firefighters have moved back into the trees.......the bears have a field day, and several more tents are destroyed.
