I'm going for a wee ride too Marysville via Warburton and Reefton Spur (ie avoiding THE 'spur) tomorrow - MONDAY, JAN 4th.  A bit short notice I know, but if any of you are at a loose end and wanna blow out the seasonal cobwebs, then you're welcome to join me for the duration or part thereof.

When you say "THE spur", you're meaning the Black Spur right? Whats wrong with that at the moment? I thought it should be fine on a Monday.

Just curious, I'm on a training course this week so can't make it. I'm going to get geekier, I'm learning Linux  Huh?

Roll Eyes Now can I ride for 4 hours to get there, do a lap, ride home for 4 hours, get to work, do a 12 hour night shift then ride back to Melb. for a night out then up the high country for a couple of days.

Hmn may be pushing it and I am still recovering from illness so need some rest somewhere.  So may have to pass Ung.   cheeky

Have a good ride.  waytogo

Anybody know if Acheron Way is still unsealed over the top?  Think I'll do the return trip that way, so I guess I'll find out....

Pretty sure it's still dirt although it's been a few years since I've been that way. The dirt section isn't too long and worth it for the bitumeny bit  waytogo

If Reefton Spur isnt the bestest motorcycling road in all the land then I challenge you to tell me what is..... I had the road pretty much all to myself..... and it just goes on and on  [moto]  I was a whoopin-an-a-hollerin so loud  Grin that I bet some of our Gringo amigos north of the border could of heard me  Grin Grin [moto]

Marysville itself - even though I did know what to expect - was not such a lovely sight.  Very sad.  Many hardy souls there are rebuilding and whilst it will never again be the Marysville of old, a thriving town is on the rise.  Having had my own (thankfully without impact) bushfire skirmish I wish 'em well.

Oh and Acheron Way? Well it may or may not still have an unsealed section but I didnt find out......  I figured that theres no way it could've been a better ride than my newfound best ever road...... so yeah....  I went home back down Reefton Spur...lol..  Brilliant.

I may be long, but I fold up nicely

the saying is that Reefton spur is owned by the Ducati club and they just let other riders use it!  waytogo

1st time down it for me it fas cold and foggy and visibility was 10 meters and cold and very foggy and did I mention the cold and wet too, at one point I had the thing in neutral just cruising with the rear brake being used/dragged!

let me know next time you're headed up reefton, i miss it!
that road is best after a big storm, it's tight and technical, mix in plenty of debris to dodge and it really gets fun Evil

just avoid the touring cars and 4wds/holidayers who like to use both lanes to corner... glad i'm yet to meet a logging truck up there!
