So here's the deal.  There is a (supposedly) really well built and designed S/C kit for my painfully underpowered car.  It brings HP from 138 to over 200 and torque from 129 to 190 (at the crank, of course).  Everything I've read on it is fantastic; super reliable, long life, made brilliantly and meshes with my m44 engine like a dream.  The problem is that it's pricey, even used, and I still have that silly power-robbing slushbox hanging around.

Thoughts?

Come down to the shop and check out this 540 that we have where the car owner installed a supercharger. See what problems he's having with a supposedly seamless "upgrade". Just sayin'.

No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

Do you know whose SC it was?  Just curious...

You could always get yourself an E36 M3, that way you get decent handling along with the power increase... Grin

If you want the ultimate in handling and acceleration, get one of these bad boys!

yeah, but an E36 M3 motor dropped into a 318ti (with all the other hop-up bits) is a far, far, more interesting car

I have seen a European spec E36 M3 engine (the S52) dropped into a 1990 (I believe) E30 325is. That car is running around over here someplace. Of course I think the guy said it took him something like 3 years to do and he was still working some small bugs out.

That would be the ultimate sleeper, especially with the S52 in it.  Cool as hell, but not quite as cool as

Best thing about the Ariel is that you can get them with the VW/Audi 1.8T motor, maybe even the 2.0T now.  A simple chip and turbo back exhaust would have you pushing something like 300 whp.  In a car that weighs the same as a slightly pudgy hamster!   Shocked

Supercharger made by Vortech. I don't know if it's their kit.

Maybe it matters, maybe it doesn't, but this is an Eaton SC with the Downing Atlanta bits.  Everything I have read about it is positive.  Like, everything, which is weird.

Their spiel:

Knowing me I won't do anything anyway, but it doesn't keep me from wondering.....
