I'm close to buying a used 2004 Ducati Monster 620 - is there anything of particular concern I should look at closely before purchasing?

Red key.....absolute must.
Service records....did I mention service records? Make sure everything was done by the book by a qualified mechanic. Never take sellers word for this.
Get it checked out by a mechanic to make sure it wasn't previously wrecked and check of mechanical condition.
I have an '03 620, it's been a great, reliable, and thrilling piece to own!

I would never buy a Duc without following these 3 golden rules.

thats pretty good advice! I agree with all this! Also look for  abike with the usual mods already done (exhaust, ecu, airbox) These will cost you $1000+ on top of the price of the bike...you know you want that sound!!!!

What you should look for is the Ducati lust that's been burning deep within your heart for a long time now. Wink

Thanks folks, I took the dive and made the purchase. Now it just needs to stop raining!

It has a few aftermarket changes, LeoVince performance exhaust, frame sliders bar risers, competition werkes fender eliminator, and color matched front wind fairing.  Ducati Seattle also lowered it for them (they gave me the service record and receipts at least).

Congrats on the new bike - I love the Leo's - I run them on 620 bike and it sounds amazing!

if it's your first bike, make sure you look for some good GEAR.

ALWAYS have good protective gear.

The 620 is a gateway drug.  Once you get it, you will be lusting over all the other Ducati has to offer.   Cheesy

I do have gear, been riding with First Gear and FieldSheer stuff for the last couple of years ... although my friends tell me I need some Italian gear now. Ha, we'll see about that.
