Rewiring bike

I am planning some extensive mods this spring and have a question about rewiring.  I really like the Motogadget M-Unit but if I choose to use this, will I lose my immobiliser functions?  Thanks.

The immobilizer function is within the ecu so it shouldn't be affected, but i have no fhe

I have a motogadget and my immobilizer is intact (unfortunately).  I'm not sure exactly how you intend to rewire and what you intend to do with the innards of your gauge cluster, but you shouldn't lose your immobilizer.   Here's a pic of Duck Stew tearing into the wiring on my bike for inspiration.

Spidey, you currently have the M-unit?  I wasn't planning on doing anything with the gauges other than just organizing the wires a little better.  What is the norm?  I don't want to lose the immobiliser function so this is good news for me.

Well scarier, but not too much more than "ok, follow the lavender wire... oh shit, wait, is this lavender or is this purple, it looked lavender before, but now it looks purple, what if this one is the purple wire and I lost the lavender wire. oh good, no i figured it out, this is much lighter than the purple one. it must be lavender. wait. what's this... magenta?!"

Oh, I totally missed that you're using the M-unit, not a motogadget gauge.  That's totally different.  I don't think you'll lose the immobilizer, but it depends what what functions you are going to use it for.  My bike uses relays to accomplish the same thing, which is pretty bulk and involved a shitload of wiring.  Talk to Stu and/or Drunken Monkey.  I know they've looked into the m-unit.

Rewiring Ducati's isn't hard -- it's just not fun to do.  I'd gladly do a S2R or S4R before I ever had to do a ST2 or 996 though!

As for the MotoGadget stuff?  It's pretty clean and recommended.  Talk with Heiko who is the guy behind everything there for more details.

Remember in the Ducati wiring harness, there is a lot of spliced wires ala grounds, etc.  Thus you can separate functionality fairly easily once you get it torn apart.

As you rewire, fix the ground wire problem.  There are a bunch of wires within the wiring harness that are of insufficient gauge -- noticeable as they will get warm when the bike is running.
