I have a couple sets of speakers that have crapped out. They all worked fine before but now they both sound very static-y like from the old days of dialing in between radio stations. I've disconnected and reconnected the wiring and unplugged them for a while. However in one set of speakers, it's only one channel of the pair (3 speaker system) that's a problem. In the other it's all around (a 5.1 system). Interestingly, the headphone jack still sounds fine in this 5.1 system.

Are they worth taking apart and fixing? Anyone local who can do this? Or am I better off just buying new ones? Any suggested replacement brands and models?

Thanks ahead of time!  waytogo

Are you sure it's the speakers and not the sound card?

Is it aftermarket sound card or is it on the MB?

The 5 speaker system is hooked directly up to a Mac tower (an old G5 dual 2.5), so there's no sound card. However the subwoofer acts as the amp for the system since everything hooks up to it.

The other one is actually hooked up as an iPod speaker system ... iPod mount, 2 speakers + sub. My bad in not being more clearer on this system.

BTW, I find it interesting that both systems are made by Klipsch ... if that helps. Needless to say I don't think I'll be getting anything from them any longer.
