When I look at these sort of setups I wonder what they drive like. Wuldn't that be rather ponderous?

This was my 600 SL and it's anything BUT ponderous. If memory serves, that's a 3.50 on the front, high-tech Pirelli at the time, and I wouldn't go any larger as 3.25 was standard. This thing handled like a bicycle because it weighed nothing and went like stink. Left many big bikes for dead in the twisties but was only geared for 110 MPH at 9,500 RPM and it helps if you're under 150 lbs, 5' 8" and under 40 as the position is...
Fine over 70 MPH of course...

Yes, some asbestos under your arse would render a cooler ride.
Love the bike.

Ya butt, your front is not as big as on that puppy! The trend on bobber type builds is to put a 5 inch tire on the front.

Very nice example (and not at all over-tyred)

Yup. Makes for a cartoonish look IMO.

[thumbsup]Yup.
If YOU sat on that bike, it would look like a minibike.
Selling it was bitter-sweet because the buyer took it directly to Massachusetts for an Italian bike show/gathering of about 300 machines and took first place!
Incidentally, that 2-into-1 stainless system you see on there came from a Ducati specialist fabricator in Australia c1981 and he really knew what he was doing. I could jet both Dellortos nearly identically which was something I couldn't do with the NCR I also tried. Looked miles better as well and sounded great without being too loud.

Ian Gowanloch?
Termignoni also made a 2:1 for the Pantah. Rare as hens teeth. It was in their catalogue until a few years ago.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

No clue. In those days there was a monthly mimeographed club newsletter and I must have spotted it in there and taken a chance. Some U.K. vendors advertised in there too. Hard to recall anymore.
It was light as a feather and beautifully made. When I got the parcel from customs, I thought something must have been lost in shipping.
If you are really interested, I might have some print scans with a tighter view.
