Many of them are beautiful creations, but I'm soon fed up with cafe racer bikes
I expect to see a new trend in a year or two... custom faired bikes
Never minded "true" cafe bikes back in the day. Even owned a Rickman Matisse for a while in the '70's..., but all these "caffed" bikes seem more punk than cafe..., like a woman with no derriere.
Can't grasp the chopped tail look on modern modded bikes either. To me they look "incomplete".
Faired would be cool..., but they'll screw that up too...
With the exception of the "fly in the paint", there was nothing wrong with the original!

Trends do come and go, the "Cafe bike" is the lattest in bike to build. Funny how alot of chopper shops are doing them now that the Chopper fad has died down. As far as custom bike trends go the cafe bikes are the ones I find my self liking the most. I still prefer the older bike with more modern suspension look. Here is an interesting article on the custom bike scene, I don't agree with everything but he does make some good points.

Interesting. But I don't need him to tell me what I should like either.

there was, at some point, a greenframe (i think, 75 900ss maybe?) supplied to someone with a rather unfortunate (for it anyway) fly under the clear coat on the fuel tank. it is now the stuff of legend, etc.

Couldn't have been THAT uncommon on a '73 750 SS as I nearly bought one in NJ like that myself! Bought an early R90S instead.

Trav, nice one..., but anything looks great on the lawn at Pebble Beach!
Son is headed out there on Tuesday for a week to work this auction and no doubt watch the Gooding auction.

Too bad he's not taking snaps..., but he DID send that snap in this thread of Hailwood's TT-winning Ducati,
This 750 was based on Hailwood's 500 GP MV IIRC. One of the nicest for sure but VERY expensive even back then!
Here's a faired version:

Looks even better with the fairing.

No. slight thread jack. But what I'm talking about relates somewhat to things I would like on my Ducati, and there isn't really a need to start a whole new thread about that.
I disagree.
It doesn't belong in here, and if there are functional elements on a bike you think Ducati should adopt, what better reason for a new thread?
