I bought my first last night and am SO happy with it - it's amazing - works amazingly well for streaming, 1gb internal hard drive space for BD Live, ethernet and wifi, DivX compatibility, and of course AWESOME image quality! I highly recommend this unit:

Samsung BD-P 3600

Currently on sale at Best Buy $70 off.

I don't spend money for things like that very often but I really feel that it was money well spent.

I own the Oppo, and it is awesome.  Use it for SACD, CD, DVD playback as well.

i bought an inexpensive samsung for netflix streaming and it sucks. It won't play discs quite often. I think I need to take it back. Ugh.

So far this plays everything that I've thrown at it - have you done a firmware on yours?

I work in the video game industry, so I am a bit biased, but I would consider a PS3 if I were in the market for a BlueRay player. You can do all the great stuff like stream netflix, surf the web, play downloaded and brick-and-mortar-retail games, and watch those pretty movies. 1 box, less space, blah blah.

my 2c.

That's probably what I'm going to do. Oh and play the shit out of some Gran Tourismo 5  [laugh]

NAKID

That's what we did. Only DVD player we have is the PS3. Streaming Netflix is nice...

I agree that the PS3 was worth considering but we had no need for another gaming system and with the nearly $80 cost difference, the end value for a PS3 just wasn't worth it us.

I'll look into it. I'm used to buying decent stuff that works first time through, but this thing was misconfigured when I plugged it in. I actually needed the manual. Shocking!

I used to like my PS3 that I spent $500 on a few years ago......until the disk drive stopped working.

This happened immediately after I cancelled all my premium channels and set up a Netflix account.  Cant work the setup disk....grrrrrr.

I hate it when those Best Buy guys, that try to sell extended warrantys, are right....

I'm in the market for a blu-ray

been thinking about the PS3...not sure.

A must for me will be netflix streaming. Can't use it where I live now (shit internet...dial up only), but I don't plan on being here forever, so I want to stream netflix when I move.

I've heard PS3 netflix streaming is kinda a hack? any truth to that?

extended warrantys on electronics are a fantastic way to spend money on something worthless.

the cost of electronics drops so fast the replacement cost is usually less than the warranty cost.

I got a Samsung BD-P1600. Streams pandora, netflix, youtube, blockbuster.

It will also do dts-ma and dolby truhd with 7.1 channels in bitstream mode. The ps3 will only do LPCM in 7.1.

It sounds minor until you hear them back to back. LPCM is non-bitstream, and the difference is noticable.

My $0.02. If you have a decent theater setup, get the purpose built device. I think the P1600 is $150 at bestbuy.
