i have googled a lot of ducati pictures as i have bought a single sided swingarm for my motorcycle!!!!!

the guy i bought it off of said his uncle got it off a ducati monster s2r...is there any way to tell because the swingarm is completely unmarked...it is the tubular design.

Plus i wanted wanted to change the shock because i have been reading through all the ducati forums and they say the stock sachs blows goats...but i can not find any identifying marks on the shock as well...

please help me as i want to be able to mount this bad boy to my ride...

plus, how can i post pictures to this thread???

I am putting it on a Z1000, slight modifications are need...but nothing i can't handle...and i know this is a ducati forum, but my buddy rides a monster and told me to try and get some advice from the ducati community [beer]

I'm not the expert, but this is certainly a S2R swingarm. If it was from a S4R it would have had a fully adjustable Sachs shock - yours is rebound adjustable only?

Sachs monoshocks are good OEM pieces, but quite a few aftermarket shocks will outshine it. The main issue with the Monster suspension is that it's made for ~160 lbs riders. You may or may not be outside it's adjustment range.

To consider:
Monster rear brakes don't do much breaking. Aftermarket pads helps. Maybe another rear master cylinder?
The suspension linkage is progressive. It's a challenge to make your own, but I'm not sure it HAS to be progressive. For the ride height rod to be useful, it must.....
The swingarm bearings are inside the engine cases - you'll need to address that.

Good luck with the project - keep us updated, please [thumbsup]

also missing in the pic is the upper suspension pivot that you'll need if you keep the suspensions setup the same.

Don't forget, the 800s came w/ the ride height adjust too.

ah, thought they had a static ride height.

well then this is either an S2R or S2R1k then. [thumbsup]

I guess the last question to find out what it most likely came from is:

Is it a 520 or 525 chain and sprocket?

520 = S2R800
525 = S2R1000

Oh yeah:

We will need his name and VIN number in order to help you any further.  [laugh]

You may have your work cut out for you in order to use this arm. Have you thought about a Speed Triple unit? Closer mechanics to your OEM swing-arm though not nearly as sexy as the Duck unit.

Yes i have looked at the triumph's, not my style plus its 28mm too wide...which i am not willing to compromise my safety for that style of swingarm....the jack @$$ that measured it for me said it would be safe for me to machine that much off, but i responded with the ol' go screw yourself line [laugh]

This ducky style is sweet and i measured everything out before i bought it(for really really really cheap i might add [thumbsup]), the only thing is that the guy i got it from said
"I think my uncle who bought it for me got it of a ducati monster..."
He didn't sound to convincing, but my main reason for trying to find out what model it is because i've talked with some other ducati owners and they have said one of the ducati super bikes have a swingarm exactly like it except shorter in width at the swingarm/frame pivot....
and i want to upgrade the shock so getting this identified will save me money on buying 2 different shocks to test bolting on ???

The honda VFR will work decent , but again, not my style, and it has been done before on the Z1000 and looks like $#!T cause the stock rim is horrible and i couldn't match the front rim to it due to "ghetto fabrication" that would look horrible and be totally unsafe....plus to line it up rite rear rim correctly, you have to use a car rim(TO GHETTO FOR ME)... [puke]

AND THANKS TO ALL WHO ARE HELPING ME OUT... [beer]

Raux

there's no superbike that uses this type swingarm.
the ducati swingarms come in two flavors.. those with no bearings in them (most 2v) and those with bearings in them (most 4v). the one's with bearings are narrower between the pivot points.
you have one with no bearings.
that's an oversimplification of them. there are lots of other differences in each model and so forth.

does your pivot point on your motor/frame have bearings for the pivot shaft?
are you saying your distance on the mount is the exact or close to the distance as this swingarm? maybe only a spacer is needed to make it fit right?
for the shock mount. take a look at a parts diagram of the Monster S2R for a better idea how this links up to the rear part of the frame.
like i said earlier your missing a part of the suspension (the pivot part of the top of the suspension) although some of the guys here can tell you  if you could just direct mount the shock and leave the ride height adjustment off.

and if you don't end up using it. Private message me a price

RAUX...thank you for the clarification [clap]

I have been googling the $#!T out of ducati bike images to see which other ones have this style of swingarm....

But the sssa will fit inside my frame, i just have to make some custom spacers for the arm and take the stock ones out...I have an extra Z1000 frame that i got cheap as well to figure the shock part out...i already cropped the rear sub frame on my extra frame to make a onesy race style peace for my Z, (CAUSE NOBODY MAKES STUFF FOR NAKED BIKES [bang])...but this has all been in my head for about three years, and now i scrimped and found all my parts pretty cheap, so now it's time to make my Frankenstein [evil], but i will probably add a few degrees, up to compensate for the shock going higher than expected ???
I also looked up close at a suberbike 1098 and saw that the shocks were an 1" or so shorter...I might pick one up at a junk yard and see if i'd be able to mount that in...

Does anyone know which shocks are swappable with this s2r swingarm???? ??? ???

As far as the non-bearing swingarm thing, i'll have to do some more investigating to see how to rectify the situation...my OEM swingarm has the bearings...so i'll have to figure that out as well...

I read that the s2R swingarm had bearings in the shaft hole ???

and RAUX...there's one on fleebay up for bid rite now...so far $305, but no rims...but i'll let you know how things pan out after i do some choppin and croppin on the spare frame [thumbsup]

Raux

the S2R is a 2valve bike. the bearing is in the engine case. i think the only (someone please correct me here if i'm wrong) ducati 2v with the bearing in the swingarm is the multistrada pre 2010.

He Man

any shock from any of the older ducs will physically fit into the slot for the shock.

the 1098 one will physically fit.
