Not a bad saison from "the mitten" brewery: New Holland.

Hard to find in bottles, but even harder to find on tap. I got lucky and found Pliny the Younger on tap once at Falling Rock in Denver a few years back. Those dudes can make some beer!

(Warning, slight rant content ahead)
So I bought a 12 pack of Guinness Draught for the first time in a long while, expecting the familiar 'PHFISHT' sound of the nitrogen capsule discharging and the lovely flowing cream head which gives way to glorious beer. None. So I am thinking I got a dud. No luck, as I grab another I see the small "Now Even Better. Drink straight from the bottle" message and NOW I get it. There is no capsul.
Now, it is still a great beer. But if I wanted Guinness straight from the bottle couldn't I just buy Stout instead?? I mean, why call it Draught, if it isn't actually being dispensed with nitrogen?
It does taste slightly stale compared to how I remember it, but maybe it is just a lapse in my memory.
Can anyone concur with me that the capsule version of Draught just tasted fresher?

Bottle? I thought the Nitrogen capsules were only in the cans?

No, up untill recently, the bottles of Draught had them too. I guess I have to check and see if the cans still have them. I always have prefered the bottles. But I have been away from the Guinness for a while. Maybe this has been going on longer than I thought.
Ahh, here we go. They are officially called widgets:

And lots of info here:
https://www.google.com/search?q=guinness+bottle+nitrogen+capsule&rlz=1C1RNKB_enUS485US486&oq=guinness+bottles+with+capsu&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0j69i62l3.23590j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
I guess I need to research to find when my Favorite beverage was actually adulterated. I guess the last few times I bought Draught it was cans.

Never seen Draught Guinness in bottles here. Never seen any
bottled
beer with the widget.
Last time I bought canned Draught Guinness.... the widget was missing.... like you, I opened the can in anticipation of the whoosh....
Haven't bought any since.
Dunno about fresher tasting, but IMO the widget-enhanced Guinness was definitely smoother, creamier.... more like the pint you get served in the pub. Being
draught
an' all.

I wish Samuel L would strike down upon them with great vengeance and furious anger, those who de-widgeted and destroyed my Guinness.

Falling Rock does have quite the selection. They've always been one of the first to get kegs of the Younger when it hits. I still have not had a chance to sample that.

New West Fest in Fort Collins this weekend.
Spent the afternoon drinking O'Dell's 5 Barrel Pale Ale and trying to stay out of the sun, all while listening to awesome live music.
It's a rough life, I tells ya.

I had a black IPA from Blue Point Brewing called "toxic Sludge" over the weekend. Very nice
ALso just tapped an espresso Porter I made. It friggen' rocks. (I know it is heavy for a summer beer but the wife loves porter so I have to keep one on tap at all times)
