Is Bling really necessary

Ok I am a newb here, and been trolling through all the threads in relation to bling, but is it really necessary?  I love my Monster as it is, as the designer had intended.  Ok I have made a couple of minor alterations but that is more for function rather than beauty.  Don't get me wrong I love the work I have seen on here and the obsession you guys n gals have gone to, but I am not sure I can tamper with my baby that way!

Note:  I have posted this on a Friday, being my mindless question day!

Yes, bling is absolutely necessary. I don't know why, it just is

Ah bling that has function and form was a bonus?  And here's me thinking that most of the bling was for pure vanity!    I guess I am still in the early stages of my relationship with my girl (the bike not the other half  ).  So the question is now what it truly bling and what is functional bling? Can it be separated? And who out there will admit they have bling for vanity vs form??

Ah so what you are saying it is an exhibitionist type of thing?    I guess owning a Ducati is the first step in standing out in the pedestrian biker crowd!  But couldnt I argue (and probably get shouted down  that the fact I am keeping it "standard" would stand out in the crowd? Can you go too far with bling?  There is something to be said for an "original" Monster in it's pure form?

Ahh, another newbie with noble intentions ... that mindset doesn't last long around here generally ... but you stay strong!

Of course there is nothing wrong with the odd 'performance enhancing, aesthetically pleasing modification'. Bling is something that goes on an overweight SUV or a rapper's teeth not on a Ducati.

So time to 'fess up - the orginal post above was made by your other half in an effort to curb your spending wasn't it? Keep it standard indeed ... ha! says he with the full termi system.

Although admittedly when I saw a stock Monster (it was about a year ago now and it didn't stay stock for long), my thought process was something like:
. ohh, that looks a bit wrong
. maybe if you just changed a couple of things such as .....
. but in reality it is not a bad looking bike standard

You have the mod virus already. After your newb days, you'll learn to live with it and finally appreciate it. Some more time passes and you start throwing away the stock parts in your closet, as you realize there's no going back.

haha stay strong indeed - and no this was not made by my better half - I made the decision to get the bike and my better half supported it (no choice really - I do get to make those sort of decisions without repurcussion  - I hope!  )
Is the termi considered as blling?  I thought more of a performance and safety aspect - loud pipes do save lives
And you do have a point Betty - I hate the ugly cow udder under the S2R/S4R.  I guess there are some areas where standard is not so beautiful.  But in years to come would a standard bike become a collectors item over modified?

strangely enough I do have the standard exhaust, but that is being kept for a legal perspective i.e. some police officer may lay claim to my bike being too loud

The latest Monster models are made for bling, why else would they make them with those ugly pipes, mirrors and rear sets.

P.S. will be posting pics this weekend for some advise as I need extra BLING, have Bike Craft page open now.
