I was browsing for some info on a ford flex, and found this:

The OP can't be serious?

"I was performing an oil change today. I drained the oil but I couldn't get the oil filter off. Even my oil filter wrench was not strong enough to get it off and my wife insisted that I change the filter rather than leaving the old one on.

I drove 1/2 mile to the nearest store and completed the oil change in the parking lot rather than continuing to drive with no oil. I could have certainly walked the half mile but I was convinced that 1/2 mile would be safe to drive even with no oil. Now I'm having second thoughts. I suppose the engine was coated with oil and there was probably a bit inside the oil filter. I'm still nervous about it though.

Any chance that I did lasting damage with such a short trip?

So, that was pretty stupid. Won't be doing that again even if it is safe to drive a short distance with no oil."

You do mean the art of rhythmic vocalizations in jazz when you say scat right?

To return to the original topic, which engines do you think would survive best with such stupidity? How long would the slight film of oil protect it? We should all do some independent testing on members of our fleets and report back the results.

I bet he got the idea from those old Castrol commercials where they would drain the oil in two engines and run them until they died.
