NEED ADVICE ON THE CHOPPING OF THE CANS
«

OK so i am a newbie and have had a lot of good advice on mods i need for the new/used 750. I have had lots of poeple tell me i need to chop the cans (and yes they do look pretty ridiculous being so long). THEY ARE LOW MOUNT CARBON ARROWS. I want to make sure, however, not to loose any horsepower. Also hopefully, when its done, sound a little better. I have done lots of searching on here but havn't any really good info on how much to chop, and the best way to go about it. And yes im pretty "tech-smart" so this is something i wll be doing.
any help would be appreciated guys, thanks!!

It's pretty much down to personal preference, you won't see any noticeable increase or decrease in performance but the shorter the can the louder the bike. I personally think that cans right around the 300mm length look the best. You want to make the cut as clean and straight as possible, taping around the can on the cut mark might help you out.

Could you like, knock off the caps lock? We'll see your post either way, and would be more willing to respond if it wasn't an eyesore, you know what I mean?

Chop away! Remember to mask up as the dust from cutting CF, it is nasty dust.
Your performance numbers will be largely unchanged with a slightly shorter can. It is not like you are going to change the airflow much if any.

well if your tech smart then here are the steps
mark it, cut it, drill it and rivet the end cap back.
Carbon Fiber = not something you want to breathe.
Also I tell this to everyone. But if you were looking for power, why would you buy a 2v Monster? Any mod that robs HP cant rob that much, and any mod that gives you HP, probably aint giving you much. So i wouldnt lose sleep wondering if im going to lose/gain hp from changing to different exhaust or filters blah blah blah, unless its a fueling mod.

I like this way to chop minus the riveting. Welding the endcap on is way better.

You can bond the can ends on with epoxy but I would not do it that way. Place your rivits on the sides of the can that are not seen, then take a black sharpie and color them black, you will never notice they are there.

im pretty sure i saw a post of a guy using a chop saw to chop his cans. made perfect sense. stable mount and a clean, one action cut. reciprocating saws seem to be another choice for making the cut and then coming back with a grinder or file to clean up the job.
